I walk into the coffee shop with Laf and Herc behind me still laughing with each other. I spot Angelica and Peggy sitting at a large booth in the back of the shop away from most people.

"Hey guys!" I say taking a seat next to Peggy and giving her a slight side hug.

"JOHN! It's great to have you back." Peggy said taking my hand in hers and squeezing it tight.

"Yeah John! How was your summer!" Eliza said. I just then noticed that all three sisters were wearing "Their" colors. Ever since they were little each sister had her own color and the other two were NOT allowed to wear that color. Angelica had pink, Eliza had bule and Peggy had yellow. This was an unspoken rule since they were young.
So because of this Angelica wore a pink tank top with a feminism pin attached and a pair of black jeans. Eliza was wearing a pale blue dress and a tan infinity scarf with her hair in a loose bun. Peggy wore a yellow t shirt and a pair of normal jeans.

"Hey John." I hadn't even noticed Thomas and James sitting in the booth until Thomas said hi. Our group which consisted of the Schuylers, me, Laf and Herc used to hate Thomas. He used to be a jerk but I think that James rubbed off on him and made him a better person, somehow. Now he's part of the group along with James. James and Thomas major in Law, Herc majors in fashion, Angelica majors in women's studies, Eliza is a culinary major and Peggy and Me are biology and art majors.

I have two majors in case being an art major doesn't pan out as well as I hope it will. The only thing is no one knows what Laf's major is, we are all pretty sure he's going into literature. He refuses to tell us in English, he always says it in French and we have tried to translate it but we never got very far.

"So who wants coffee?" Angelica says as she breaks my train of thought.

"Oh yes please I have so much to do when I get back to my room." I say and get up to go to the counter and order. I walk up to the counter and am met with a familiar face.

"Maria! Wow it's great to see you! How was your summer?" I say with a large smile on my face. The truth is I haven't seen Maria since freshman year when she moved away with her boyfriend James Renyolds.

"Oh hey John! Yeah it's been great! Really good! Just amazing!" Okay something is going on. I watch as she plays with her sleeves and looks down avoiding eye contact.

"Maria, is everything really okay?"

"Yeah, No everything is fine. What can I get for you?"

"Maria you know you can tell me anything."

"Thanks John but really everything is fine. So coffee?"

"Yeah can I get a large vanilla latte with a shot of espresso."

"Okay that will be $3.50." I hand her the cash and notice slight bruises covering her wrist. She looks at me and quickly takes the cash and pulls down her sleeve.

"Keep the change." I say and go back to sit down with my friends but my mind doesn't stop thinking about the her wrist.

"What took so long?" James asked as he held his coffee with the sleeves of his long winter sweater. It was only September but James always looked like he was sick or cold. I kind feel bad for the poor kid.

"Oh nothing. Just talked to an old friend."

"Okay." He said and took a small sip of his coffee then continued his conversation with Eliza. I think they were talking about their favourite season or something like that. I just then caught a glace at Thomas who wasn't part of their conversation but rested his elbow on James' shoulder and watched him talk with Eliza. Huh.

I took my seat next to Peggy and started to talk about out summer when I realised the time. 10:35. Shit! I say a quick goodbye and race over to the dorms. Luckily they are only about 10 minutes away on foot so I made it back before 10:45. I ran up the stairs and down the hallway to my room.

I pull the key out of my back pocket, unlock the door and open it. All my stuff was just as I left it. My roommate was nowhere to been seen. Maybe I have a room to myself this year. No wait that can't be right. I pull out the small piece of paper I got in the mail about a week ago with my key, room number and roommates name.

John Laurens
Room: 1776
Roommate: Alexander Hamilton

Huh. His name is Alex...that's actually kinda cute. Oh yeah I may have forgotten to mention, I'm as straight as a circle made out of rainbows I wonder if he is tall or maybe athletic.. PLEASE DON'T LET HIM BE A NERD THOU—I am interrupted by a small shy sounding knock at the door. I open it to find a boy about my height with black hair pulled back into a tight ponytail. He is carrying a small backpack but no suitcase or trunk.

"Hi is this, um, room 1776?" he asks. I look into his eyes and see a small spark light up when he faces the light just the right way. Holy crap he's gorgeous.

"Ummmm.... Hello?"

"Oh yeah right Hi. I-I'm Laurens John is me..."

"Um Hi. I'm Alexander Hamilton."

"J-John L-Laurens." I can't stop looking at him. What is wrong with me.

"Hi John it's nice to meet you." He chuckles. God it was beautiful, like hearing an angel itself. I gather all my remaining cool and lean up against the door after I shut it and crossed my arms.

"So, uh, where are you from?" I look up to see him standing next to the empty bed where he placed his bag not looking up. I could see his face flush a shade of white I had never seen before.

"Uh... I don't really like talking about it." I could see a single tear fall from his eye onto his hand as he wiped his eye and stood up straight still not looking up. He's not like anyone I have ever met before. I want to know all about him. Every last detail.

"Oh sorry I--"

"No it's fine you didn't know." He says looking at me with his shoulders pushed back so he would look bigger than he actually was.

"Look John, I know I just got here and we barely even know each other but I've had a really long day so I'm just gonna unpack in the morning and try to get some rest. Is that okay with you, I wouldn't want to interrupt anything or.." I watched as he started playing with the sleeves of his shirt.

"No that's totally fine. I was just gonna go across the hall for a couple minutes anyway so.. You try and get some rest and if you need anything I'll be across so you can sleep, okay?"

"Okay, Goodnight John." He said and climbed into bed and rolled over facing the wall. I turned off the lights and opened the door.

"Goodnight Alex." I said before closing the door and walking across the hall to tell Herc and Laf what had happened.
