Where am I...
Who am I...
That is what a little girl wondered. She was alone, sitting on the forest floor. She was not like others. Others would make fun of her, say mean things. Anything they noticed that was not to their liking was immediately noticed.
She was alone.
She lifted up her hood, slowly crying. No one would worry, care. Her own parents never really wanted anything to do with her.
"Little girl?"
She whipped her head around to see what was calling her. Pulling out her lucky knife, she mumbled out something.
"W-who are you? Why a-are you here?"
Tears were already brimming at her eyes, begging to get out and roll down to the crisp forest floor. The air around her turned suddenly cold. Thank god she was wearing a hoodie or else she would have froze to death already.
"There is no need to be afraid. Why are you alone, little girl?"
"N-no one cares. You shouldn't. W-why are you here?"
"To help you. A child shouldn't be out here alone in the cold."
The little girl looked towards the voice, realizing a jet black wolf was standing beyond her gaze. She blinked, rubbing her eye with one hand, for the other had a knife. She was a bit confused. One, why was a wolf helping her? And two, why did it care?
The wolf approached her. The girl was only 4'5, since she was about 7 years old. The wolf was swishing it's tail in a smooth motion, going back and forth like a pendulum. His eyes felt like it can suck you inside; his fur blended into the cold night. The little girls breath stiffended for a minute, then she did a heavy breath which could be seen in the air.
"Do not be afraid. I'm here to help."
The wolf did a sort of dog smile. It made the little girl smile herself, but nervously. She was very afraid, her hand with the knife in it clenched, but shaking. She didn't fully trust this wolf yet. The wolf came to her, sitting down in front of her. His bright, pointy teeth where like flashlights in the night, the moon high in the sky as well. The wolf was...huge compared to her.
"Why are you here, young one? Don't you have friends? Or guardians?"
"I...I do have parents..a-and a sister. But other than that, i-i'm alone."
"How come, little one? Have you ventured far from home, trying to find a new place to stay?"
"Y-yes I have. Why are you here, Mr. Wolf..?"
The wolf then gave her cheek a little lick if comfort, a small giggle then coming from the girl.
"The reason why I am here is because I care. I have watched you from afar, little Catrina. I know you will do big things since you are very special. I have faith in you. From now on, I vow to protect you with all my life. I will be your guardian, your protector."
A few tears brimmed at Catrina's eyes once again. Her mouth formed a nice, warm smile, Catrina then hugging the wolf. She barely knew him, but she knew there was something in common that they both had.
They are both alone.
"W-what's your name, Mr. Wolf..?"
"My name?...You can call me Star."
