Do Fairies Have Tails?

So this is the infamous Fairy Tail? I thought to myself, pushing the doors of the guild hall closed behind me. The wind from the storm fighting me, blowing rain inside until i was able to shut the heavy doors. i sighed and shook my head, dripping more water onto the ground. the wind still raged outside and the Hall was light by many candles, casting a soft, warm, welcoming glow over the spacious room.

Leaving my hood of my cape pulled low over my face, i shrunk down into my scarf more, covering my nose. i looked around the Hall cautiously, noticing only a few others in the room. Just gotta keep my head down. Be inconspicuous. Get in, get out. I can do this. There was a pretty woman behind the bar at the far end of the room and a few groups of twos and threes at the tables closest to the bar, closest to the majority of the lights.

I went to the right in the corner closest to the door i just entered and set my pack onto a table, my beast companion following me. his nails clicked against the hard ground, but otherwise he was silent. i pulled out my thick book and tucked it securely under my arm, taking a deep breath. Just ask for the Guild Master, simple as that. i tried to calm my nerves, taking a few deep calming breaths before i tuned to my friend.

"Grimm, will you stay here and watch my stuff for me?" i quietly asked the Dire Wolf. the large bear sized beast simply chuffed at me and laid down in front of the table, his shaggy black coat still dripping water. "thank you, my friend," i whispered and scratched his head.

i made my way up to the counter of the bar as quietly as I could in the silent Guild Hall, ignoring the few people who gave me looks. catching the woman with the white hair's attention she came over, smiling brightly at me.

"what can i help you with, stranger?" her voice was high and light, immediately setting me at ease. i pulled my scarf down slightly, but kept my hood up. It would be better if no one really even saw my face.

"is the Master of the Guild available? i need to speak with them please," i said softly. the woman's face fell slightly and she began to shake her head.

"No, I'm sorry, Master Makorav is out on business. He is supposed to be back later today, if you would like to wait. Or maybe i could assist you? My name is Mirajane, and i look after the Guild when Master is absent." she sounded genuinely distressed at being unable to help me and i gave her a small smile while shaking my head.

"thank you Mirajane, but i was told.... by a friend.... that i really need to talk with the Master first. I will just wait for him to return," i murmured. Dang it, i hope this trip wasn't a bust. I really don't want to be in town too long.

"if i may ask, who told you to come to Fairy Tail?" Mirajane asked, and i stopped from turning back to where Grimm was waiting. i appraised her carefully before answering. she seemed simply curious and contrite, and if the Master of the guild trusted her to look after if when he was gone, she must be a long-time member of the Guild. Sighing, i turned back to her and clutched to book tighter in my grip.

"A man named Mystogan. he said Fairy Tail would be able to help me. he said, this was the only place he trusted, so i should go to Fairy Tail and speak to the Master," i said, leaning in close so my words wouldn't travel to the rest of the Hall. Mirajane's eyes widened in something between shock, fear and admiration that i had trouble placing and she watched me silently move back to my table. Sitting down in a chair facing the entire Hall with a small groan, I turned to face the Wolf, who watched me, waiting for my next move.

"I'm going to stay here and wait, the Master isn't here quite yet. You don't have to wait, want me to open the door for you?" I asked Grimm. When the thunder only rumbled, nearly shaking the building, the Dire Wolf just set his head on his paws, not sparing me another glance.

I guess that means 'hell no'

Hours passed in silence, other than the occasional outburst from the other people in the Hall. I had my head bent to my chest dozing off, my hood still firmly pulled low over my face. I heard Grimm shift around a couple of times, otherwise our corner was quiet, save our breathing. When I heard footsteps nearing us though, Grimm suddenly sat up and I lifted my head. It was Mirajane, with a steaming mug in her hand a sunny smile of her face.

"I'm so sorry to have to tell you this, but i just got word because of the storm, the Master will not be back until tomorrow," she set the mug on the table in front of me. What now? I could just come back tomorrow, but that would be a pain, i don't want to have to go to a pawn shop to get enough money to pay for a night in an Inn. It was late enough as it was. Like I could find somewhere in the dark, while its storming that would take me, let alone a Wolf in for the night.

I looked up at Mirajane carefully reading her expression. She seemed worried. Still with a kind aura though. "Mirajane, would it be possible for myself and Grimm here to stay the night?" I asked, hopeful.

Her brows furrowed and she said, "we don't have rooms to rent in the Guild Hall, I'm sorry,"

I shook my head, "we could just sleep in this corner, its better than where we have been sleeping recently. and tomorrow i could go and get money to pay for the trouble."

She considered this. Mirajane eventually let out a breezy sigh, "I don't see why not. if the Master has an issue with it, I can deal with him later. Yes, that would be fine. Would you like any blankets or pillows, I'm sure I could find a couple for you from the lounge on the S Class floor!" She was cheerful and began to turn away.

"No! Please, this floor is more than enough, no need to trouble yourself with that, really," I said, halting her in her tracks. She nodded and smiled at me once more. "Although, are there perhaps meals I could get?"

She nodded, "of course! It is getting late, I'm sure the kitchen is more than ready, I'll bring something out for you! And would like me to bring something for.... Grimm, was it?" Mirajane smiled down at the great beast who began to lick his chops and looked at me as if to say, of course I want food! I nodded to her and she glided off, ready to tackle the task.

While waiting for the food, I packed the book back into my travel bag and set it against the wall. I pulled out my weapons and set those aside. Setting my old cloak next to my pack, I made a makeshift nest to lay in after my meal. Shortly after, the food was brought out. There was a hearty soup and a chunk of bread. Mirajane happily gave Grimm a slab of meat as well. After thanking her vehemently, I dug in, happy to have my stomach full of warm food for the first time in weeks. By the time I ended my meal, the Hall was nearly empty, besides Mirajane and another man with white hair as well, and impressive size. He was laughing quite loud at something Mirajane must have said. They looked close. I wonder if they're related or something.

I settled down on the ground in the corner, Grimm taking his place next to me, sharing his warmth. There were still a few candles lit, but the light was soothing. Huh, so this is Fairy Tail? No wonder Mystogan talked about it with such nostalgia. besides the odd name, this place is definitely calming. Ignoring my spasming back, i pulled my hood down further and leaned heavily into Grimm and fell into a dreamless sleep.
