This was probably the darkest I've ever seen it be here in Fairfax Station. No lights, nothing, not a soul in sight, either. I walked along the dirt road, finding nothing but more slightly twitching bodies and pools of blood. My girlfriend, Kylie Camp, a beautiful red-headed British woman with shining green eyes, clung very closely to me, trying not to look at the doom around us. I could barely face it myself, but at the same time, I wanted this to happen. It was happening, and that was the reality of it all.

Chapter 1

I sat back, trying to figure out what I was going to do for lunch. My chair was pretty comfortable, then it started tipping back and dropped me out of it. I got back up, and thought for a second. "What if I could stop gravity from really working, which would be amazing." I thought to myself. Then, my door was knocked upon, sending me to it. The soldier at my door was my close friend, William. He was very skinny, pale skinned, and had a ton of freckles, and he also donned dirty blond hair cut to perfection in a military manner. His thick black rimmed glasses fell heavily on his nose, and amplified the size of it greatly.

I warmly greeted him and brought him inside, jokingly mentioning the size of his nose as he walked in. William scoffed and mentioned how small mine was, and I growled a little. Yeah, my nose was small, but there are other things on me that are quite large, you know! He asked, "Gomez, when do you think the zombie apocalypse will come around?" to me as I was grabbing some chips to eat. "Well, William, maybe someone out there has already created it in their basement, and is waiting for the right moment to throw it out there." I replied, munching on a chip. Of course, we may never know if it will be man-made, either.

The night followed, and William and I played video games for about a couple of hours. Suddenly, a loud knock on my door was heard. It was only one, and not the greeting four knocks you would usually hear. I looked at William and he looked at me and shook his head, jokingly saying, "Ahh, it's a zombie... Go open the door, retard. Its probably Nick." Yes, it could have been. So, I walked to the door and looked through the peep hole, and saw someone's silhouette, and I couldn't see who it was. They were pressed way too close to the door. "Uh, I can't see who this is, can you step away from the door?" I shouted to the door. No reply, so I flung it open and stared at a bloodied face of my roommate, Nick. He was gasping for air, clutching his throat with blood fountaining from his neck. He stumbled in and fell to the floor with a small crack, as if he broke something on the fall.

Me and William stared for a second at the now lifeless corpse of my friend, laying there, collecting blood in his sweater. William started to say something, but simply whimpered. I shook myself and grabbed my phone, dialing for the MPs to come. Nothing was on the line, just the dial tone. There was a message, though. "We're sorry, we are experiencing a flood of calls today and we will have to put you on hold." Said the voice record on the phone. "William... He's hurt bad, look at him... I, I think he's still alive! He's moving!" I shouted while turning him over, only to see his eyes bloodshot with mutant looking pupils, no longer the brown shade the once were. Nick reached up and tried to grab my neck, but I pushed him back, standing straight up. "William, he's not right. Move away from him." I said to William, who was already moving around him. "Is he... A zombie?! Oh man, this is happening too fast, this can't be happening!" William stammered on. We had to get out of there. We both knew our zombie facts. Get away and hide for a while was our first step we learned, and that's exactly what we did.

Chapter 2

I ran along with William, trying not to focus on the people around me. They were all soldiers like me, but they looked onto us differently. Why is he running? Where is he going? Soldier, what is wrong? I kept hearing. Me and William kept running, though. We ran all the way to the mini mall, and went into the food store. We grabbed what we could and maxed out credit cards, shoving everything into our backpacks. Then all of a sudden, a shot rung out, clear as day, inside the mall. We looked out, and there were more. An MP fired on one, with no success of killing it. Then more came, stumbling on top of each other, and everyone started panicking. "William, we have to get out of here! Through the back door, that's the way out!" I shouted to William, pulling him with me. "Mike, wait! What about guns? The sport's store has them!" said William, pulling me towards the sport's center.
