She looks so beautiful right now.
Should I?
No. Not now.
"What are you thinking about?"
Her words break me out of my trance. I've been staring at her for too long.
I suddenly lean in to kiss her. She stops me, leaning away so I kiss her cheek instead.
"Do you really want to kiss me?" She asks, doubt in her eyes and concern in her voice. I shrug. "This is a dream. I can do what I want."
And it's true. For the first time, I know that I'm dreaming, so I'm not concerned about the consequences. I can kiss her here, but I can't anywhere else.
She nods quickly, leaning in. The carnival noises that surround us fade to a hum in the background. I kiss her nose, her cheeks, everywhere on her face but her lips.
She's avoiding kissing me on the mouth, but I don't care. I'm happy like this.
The entire time I'm hoping, praying, to not wake up. I want this moment to last forever, I don't want to let it go.
And I'm able to stay. I expect every moment to be the last before I wake up, but I stay rooted in my dream world.Where are we?
"Just wait."
We are standing on opposite ends of a windowless room with beige walls. Between us are two pay phones rising out of the ground.
Neither of us make any move towards each other, my eyes flicking back and forth between her and the phones.
All of the sudden the phones start to ring in unison. We both cross the room to our respective phones and pick them up.
A slight static can be heard through them.
"What is this?" I ask, confused. I can hear my voice come through her phone.
"We are connected. We dream the same dream."
I hear her voice through the phone and in the air.
I understand what she means, somehow.
Neither of us speak any longer, just looking at each other with our phones up to our ears.
I'm suddenly next to her, my phone on the ground. She looks at me and I lean in to kiss her, and she does the same. We are mirroring each other's movement, everything in sinc."We dream the same dream."
The room fades away along with the dream. It's over, a new dream starting.
I play along with the things happening around me, but I'm still puzzling over what had just happened.
I'm still wondering when I feel my dog's cold nose nudge my arm, and I wake up.👇👇👇👇
