Sequel to Happy Birthday
You let out a small, content sigh as you walked down the street beside your very own tall, dark and handsome mystery man. Of course, he was beginning to seem less and less like a mystery to you, but you still cherished every little thing you learned about your boyfriend of four years.
“So, Vincent, mind telling me where it is you’re taking me this evening?” You asked, turning to look at the man beside you curiously. You saw one corner of his mouth twist slightly upwards, and he glanced at you out of the corner of his eye.
“The Gold Saucer. It is… a special occasion, after all,” he replied. You furrowed your brows slightly in confusion. ‘Special occasion’?
After a moment, you shrugged and hooked your arm in his, walking a little bit closer. You trusted him to eventually tell you what this ‘special occasion’ was. You knew for a fact that it wasn’t either of your birthdays, and there weren’t any particular holidays or other anniversaries right now that you knew of.
Maybe…
Warmth spread across your cheeks and you shook your head slightly to dispel the thought. Nah. It couldn’t be that. … Could it?
You glanced at Vincent out of the corner of your eye. He was looking straight ahead, though his eyes were somewhat glazed over, which was odd for him. He was obviously thinking deeply about something, and not paying as much attention as he usually would to his surroundings.
“Vincent…?” You asked softly, staring up at him with some worry shining in you [colour] eyes. He tilted his head to look at you, expression softening just slightly.
“It’s nothing, [Name]. Don’t worry.” For good measure, he offered a small smile. You returned the gesture, slightly strained, before turning to look ahead of you, where you could see the Gold Saucer getting closer. You were still worried, but you would let it slide for now, at least until the two of you could speak a bit more privately.
Without a word spoken between you and Vincent, you both went straight for the gondolas. Once you were situated and on your way, you stared intently at you boyfriend, waiting to see if he would fess up.
It was silent for a long time before Vincent finally shifted to return your gaze. Sort of. He was actually looking at a particular strand of [colour] hair that was hanging down between your eyes. He reached with his gloved hand to gently move it aside, resting his hand on your cheek.
You leaned gently into his touch, letting out a breath of air you didn’t know you were holding, eyelids falling closed to take in the moment of contentment.
Vincent shifted slightly, not removing his hand from your face, and you heard the rustling of fabric. You began to open your eyes, but a soft whisper that did nothing to hide the slightly raspy baritone told you to keep them closed for a moment longer. His thumb stroked your cheek softly before he removed his hand completely and you heard him shifting again.
“… You can open your eyes now.”
You nodded, letting your eyelids flutter open, before they stretched into a wide-eyed stare. Your mouth fell open slightly as you gaped at the scene in front of you, breath hitching slightly. You looked up to his face to see that he was turned slightly to the side, cheeks tinted pink and staring at you out of the corner of his eye. You looked back at the object held in his hand.
There, nestled in soft velvet, was a rather simple golden band topped with a modest-sized diamond, with two smaller rubies on each side of the clear gem. You smiled softly, bringing one hand up to cover it; they matched his bright red eyes perfectly.
You looked back up to Vincent’s face when you heard him clear his throat softly. You could see the pink tint spreading across his face, and your smile widened slightly.
“[Name],” He paused, savouring the taste of your name on his tongue, as he sometimes did. This brought a light blush to your own cheeks. “I’m not one to go through some long speech over anything, so I’ll just ask; will you marry me?”
Warm tears sprang to your eyes and you pursed your lips, making an odd squeaking noise in the back of your throat. After a few moments of finding yourself unable to form words, you nodded emphatically, leaned in and smashed your lips to his.
There were a few awkward seconds of desperate kissing, from relief and elation, before you both calmed down a bit and got into better positions for long-term make-outs.
It was several minutes before you came back down from your euphoria, but when you did, Vincent slipped the ring onto your finger. It fit perfectly. You spent some time just admiring your new ring, grinning like a complete idiot, before you looked back up at your fiancé.
“You were right,” You murmured as you leaned in for another kiss, “This is a special occasion.”
