"Mom! Mom! Wake up I need you!" My daughter said to me. "It's okay Amber, I'm here,"I told her,"never forget that." "Thanks mommy," she said. I glanced at the clock, it was 4:00 am, on a Saturday morning. What could Amber possibly want at this hour? "What is it my dear?" I asked. My 5 year old looked at me and said,"I'm scared mommy, for you and daddy to leave me all alone, all week." "Oh honey, me and daddy will be back before you know it," I told her. She replied,"I still don't understand why you are going to the Upper East Side, that's what it's called, right?" "Amber, me and daddy want to visit our friends that live there and it's our anniversary," I explained. "What's an anniversary?" She asked. "It's like a birthday, I told her,"but it's something me and daddy share." She said,"Oh I understand, you and daddy want to do something special for your shared birthday, I'd never not want to celebrate my birthday." I told her,"Don't worry, your Aunt Vanessa is coming all the way from Spain to play with you!" I assured. "Aunt Vanessa!" She exclaimed. Then, I saw by her expression that she knew everything would be okay which means I know everything will be okay. "Goodnight mommy," she said. I responded,"Goodnight sweetheart." I walked back to my bedroom to go back to bed, I had to get up at 7 to pick up Vanessa at the airport. Dan and I's flight to New York left at 3pm that day. Since the flight was only from Miami to New York, it wasn't unreasonably long. However, Vanessa's flight must have been torture. When I snuck back in bed I heard Dan speak. "What was that about honey?" He asked. "Amber's nervous that we are leaving her for a week," I told him,"should we have waited longer to leave her this long?" "Serena dear, aren't you excited to see Blair, Chuck, Nate and Jenny?" He said. "Of course, I mean we only see them a few times a year, Blair and Chuck are always busy with the kids, Nate is the frickin' governor and Jenny.Style keeps Jenny busy." I told him. "And it's our anniversary," Dan smiled,"We'll get to have lots of alone time." I replied,"Yeah it was the right choice not to stay with Blair and Chuck, they have 5 kids after all." Dan joked,"Yeah and one kid is too many." I laughed and kissed him. "Goodnight Dan, my love," I smiled. "Goodnight Serena, dearest." He said. And we went to sleep. We were very excited for our trip even if I meant that I took time off work at The Miami Daily, the newspaper I write for. And that Dan had to take a break from writing his next book. We wanted to get back to Upper East Side. We hadn't been there since Amber was born and we were surprisingly ready to go back.
