Jamie's POV

as the bus doors close, i'm already half way up the stairs to my house.

it's been a long day and all i want to do is lay down and blast my rock music. but of course, my parents are home.

i sigh and drop my head as i open the door. while closing it, i part my hair down the middle and fix my shirt.

my parents are very religious and are always telling me that my music is "satanic" and that God will never accept me into heaven for listening to it. news flash, i don't believe that stuff.

what they don't know, is that my music has saved my life a number of times. during my first years of high school, i was pretty suicidal and always self harming.

i'm officially 6 months clean now. that is because my aunt samara has always been there for me and provides me a second home where i can be myself. without her, i probably would've been dead a long time ago.

"how was school, darling?" my mother asks as i walk through the door, a fake smile plastered on my face. "it was fun! we learned a lot more in religion today!" i reply, slowly backing away so i don't have to wear this mask of a smile. "awesome!! well, dinner will be ready in about an hour." she turns back to her cook book and i rush up the stairs.

i set a timer for 45 minutes on my phone. i lock my door and change into some darker clothes, applying my gothic makeup and plugging my head phones in.

the first song to come up is Devil in The Mirror. this is one of the songs that saved my life.

as i'm dancing around and lip syncing, i remember my homework. i set my phone down on my desk and get started on my grade 11 math.

i'm 16, turning 17 in December and it's October right now. all i want for my birthday is to meet my favourite band, black veil brides. but they're "satanic" so my parents won't take me. and my aunt samara is going on a business trip while the tour is going on.

30 minutes later my alarm goes off. i put my pencil down and go into my bathroom to wash off my makeup and fix my hair. i put on a pair of light blue jeans and a white t shirt. i apply some light pink lip gloss and some mascara and head downstairs.

"dinner smells great mom!!" i compliment as i sit down. "why thank you sweetheart, i'll be back in a minute. i'm grabbing your father from the garage. you can start putting food on your plate, but don't-"

"i know, don't eat until we say grace." i cut her off, she smiles and nods her head before going off to get my father.

as i finish putting some salad on my plate, my parents walk in and sit down. they get themselves some food and say grace.

after dinner, i help with dishes and head back upstairs to finish my homework

a/n: hope you guys enjoyed the first chapter 😁it make take a while for me to get into the habit of writing since school is starting up again (literally starts tomorrow) but i'll try my best
