Endless Night

There she lay on her bed,

A child of the Endless Night.

The Deafening Silence shrouds around,

Unbroken but for her own heartbeat.

There were a million reasons to smile

Yet she struggled to fight the tears

As they flowed from her eyes

Like water from a dam

The Phantom lay beside her,

Whispering in her ear

Memories she wished she could forget.

Slaying each tiny beam of hope,

The Phantom kept her company.

Oh, how she wished he were gone!

But something about the bitterness enticed her,

Convincing her to hold onto him.

And so, the Phantom lives on,

Undeterred.

The melancholy pleasure controlled her,

Killed her from the inside out.

Past memories numbed her feet, her soul,

Destroying her peace and sleep.

Oh, how she wished they were gone!

How she wished the suffocation would end

And the freedom to breathe would return!

Yet, the Endless Night encompassed her.

Each second felt like an hour,

Each minute like a day.

So there she lay, for a thousand years

Staring at the ceiling,

Shaking hands, soaked pillows,

A child of the Endless Night.
