A Simple Illusion -- A Jizzie Story

Chapter 1: Confusion

Yammy's car screeched to a halt in front of my house. "Text you later, Lizzie?"

"Yeah. Don't forget to send me some of your pictures! That sunset was amazing!"

"Don't worry Lizzie!" Yammy paused as she gave me a friendly hug. "You get inside, though. It's really cold!!" 

I gave her one last wave as I shut the car door, and she drove away. As I opened the garden gate, Buddy came running up to me, and started entwining round my legs. "Buddy," I sighed, before picking him up and hugging him close. "I missed you!" He replied with a meow, perhaps a sign that he wanted to be free, so I put him down and walked to the front door. Keyrings jangling, I unlocked the door and called, "Joel!"

But there was no answer: no Meri rushing to greet me, no Joel coming down the stairs. "Joel!" I called, louder this time. Still no answer. I checked outside again, but our car was still in the driveway. 

I called him and went inside, only to hear his phone ringing from its place on the kitchen table. In an instant I messaged the girls group chat: Joel isn't home..? The car is still in the driveway and his phone is here! I'm so confused!! Xx  Within two minutes I got a message from Yammy. I'm sure he's either hiding upstairs or he's just popped out to the shop 💖 Xx 

I considered the option. I guess you're right. I replied, with a sigh. But he wasn't here to say hello! ☹️💖 Xx  I put my phone down before parking my suitcase next to the fridge, and grabbing a bag of crisps. My phone buzzed, and I put the packet down before realising it was a message from Maddie.

I hope you got home alright, Lizzie! How was the holiday? Xx

I hesitated, then replied, Amazing! It was great to be with the girls for a bit. Xx  I didn't want to annoy her with stories about my relationship, and anyway, Joel had probably taken Meri for a walk or something.

That was when i saw the note, laying so innocently next to the microwave.

Dear Lizzie,

Our relationship. I feel like it's falling apart, that it can't be saved. I have been thinking about this  for a long time, and I hate to break it to you.

I think that we should just be friends.

I have moved round to my mum's house with Meri, but please don't visit me. I would only get upset.

Joel x

I couldn't stop myself from running out of the room, sobbing.
