Where am I? My surroundings were dark, lit only with the light of a far door cracked open an inch. I tried to stand, only to realize that my feet and arms were bound to the cold, hard thing up against my back. I assumed it was a straight chair or a wall.
Why were my limbs bound? Who would do this, and why didn't I remember being taken?
I yanked at the bindings and tried to shake them loose to no avail.
I tired to yell for someone, but my voice was hoarse and silent. Something terrible was going on, and I must admit I was frightened. Once more I tugged hard against the thing I was tied to. My stomach lurched as I tipped forward, falling. As the ground got closer and closer, it opened up and burst into nothingness. It was a void, and eternity of darkness. Just as the world above could have gone out of sight, the door opened and out stepped Asher. I screamed for him. He looked at me this time. Our eyes connected, and my heart skipped a beat. His eyes were vacant and his face expressionless.
This was not Asher. I continued to fall, but now, I welcomed the thought of the void.

I awoke with a gasp, searching for the much wanted air to refill my lungs. I sat hunched over under my bed sheets for a few minutes until my breath had returned and my heart had calmed to a steady beat.
Kristian was not beside me tonight. I wondered where he was. I needed to talk to him. The first step of the plan was to talk to everyone. I had to find out where Asher's body was, and, at some point, I had to get everyone out of the house. The witch had made her instructions very clear.
I strode out of my room and down the hallway when I came to a stop outside of Damien's chambers. There were whispers.
It sounded like he and Kristian were having a serious talk. I inched as close to the door as I dared to listen in.
"I don't know. It's like he is distracted. I have tried to find out what is wrong, but he just keep making up excuses." Was Kristian talking about me? It sounded like it could be, but I listened closer to make sure.
"We need to find out what is troubling him. We can't have a distracted hunter. It could very well blow our cover out there in the open."
"What do we do, Damien? I've tried talking to him."
There was a pause before Damien answered.
"Where is Mitchel now?" he asked.
"In our room asleep," replied Kristian.
"Go to him. Tell him that you want to take a trip. Take Mitchel away from here. Kill him."
I gasped. I heard shuffling in the room, so I ran and his behind the book case located between our rooms. It had a small hole in it, which allowed me to see Kristian walk out of the room and look both ways down the hallway. He re-entered the room and closed the door quietly behind him.
I gave the book case a light peck and thanked it for saving me.
Quietly, I tiptoed back to the door and listened harder to hear the rest of the secret conversation.
"Please, Damien, I beg you to reconsider. He will improve. He is just bored here, that's all. He has been looking for a job to keep himself busy. Don't make me kill him, I love him," pleaded Kristian.
"My answer is final, Kristian. I can't have a distracted soldier," said Damien in his authoritative voice.
I heard Kristian sigh. "I don't think I can do it, Damien."
Damien laughed. "You will do it, or I will have your soul." I could only imagine the pleasure on Damien's vile face as he said this.
I heard feet on the floor now, like someone standing up to leave. "Oh, and Kristian. If you kill Mitchel, you can take his soul. Do you understand what I mean?"
A few heart beats passed before I heard Kristian's answer. "That would mean I would become like you. I would become a full Master Vampire."
"Leave me now, Kristian. And mull that over for a while. Any vampire would be lucky to have this opportunity. And I would like you to leave tomorrow. That is all."
Kristian continued to walk towards the door. I stood up and ran as quietly as I could back to our bedroom. Buried back under the sheets, I had never felt so cold. I guess making my plan would be harder than I realized.
Kristian walked into the room, silently closing the door behind him. He pulled back the sheets of the bed and crawled in beside me. He leaned over and wrapped his arms around me, holding me tighter than he ever had. "I love you," he whispered. I assumed he thought that I was still asleep.
He kissed the top of my head and sighed. "Please forgive me for what I will have to do to you."
