Jay Bennett.
Wonderful.
I avert my eyes and quicken my pace. The last thing I want is to talk to that guy. All the girls were crowding around him. It's annoying. He's like the prince of the school.
He notices me staring and starts jogging to catch up to me, leaving those girls behind.
"Hey." he says with a smile.
Of all people to talk to...
"Hm." I nod in acknowledgement, avoiding eye contact.
Why are you here? Okay, you can leave now.
Instead, he slings his arm around my shoulders. I tense up.
Whaaatt???
He leans in close to my ear and whispers very softly, "Just play along."
I make a strange face and resist the urge to smack his arm away until we turn around the corner. Once we're out of sight from the girls, he lets go of me.
"Sorry, those girls wouldn't leave me alone. I had to find a way to get them to stop following me." he shrugs and gives me his famous smirk.
Ughhh. Whatever, pretty boy.
"Okay, great." I say awkwardly. I can't stop my hand from shaking. "Welp, I've got to get to class." I say and turn to walk away.
"Hey, wait." Jay says and I slowly turn around to meet his gaze.
"Yes?" I say.
Come on, man. Hurry it up we got places to be.
"You're Edie, right? Edie Harper?" he asks.
"Um, yes?" I respond, raising an eyebrow.
"Interesting." he says with a half-smirk and walks away.
"Hey, hold on!" I call after him, but either he can't hear me or he pretends not to.
I scoff.
What a weirdo. But who am I to judge.
I head to my next class, clutching my books close to my chest.
Jay Bennett. Just who does that guy think he is?

At the last dismissal bell, I head down to the front of the school. I see my brother hanging out with all his senior friends.
"Edie, do you want a ride?" Brandon calls to me.
"Nah. I'll walk today." I respond and head to the doors. I hear his friends talking behind me.
That's your little sister, right?
Isn't she a sophmore?I open the doors and feel the breeze hit my face. It feels so nice outside. The weather is absolutely beautiful.
That's what I would like to say, but I'm an introverted otaku and I'm not an outdoorsey person so walking home right now isn't the greatest thing to he doing right now.
Wait, why am I even walking back home anyway? Ughhh. Is it too late to change my mind about riding with my brother? Probably.
I continue walking home. According to my phone, it'll take 20 minutes.
Ughhh. That's 20 minutes too much.
I decide to pass the time by pulling out my earbuds and listening to some music. But not just any ordinary music, no. ANIME OPENINGS!! I start jamming out to them, singing the lyrics out loud. It doesn't matter if I don't speak any Japanese, it's the powers of the otaku!!
