"Umm... Why is everyone so mad?" Mr Sleepyhead, aka my idiot brother William, asks as he walks down the staircase.
"Ahh! Guess he finally woke up." Vera says, popping a grape into her mouth.
"We tried to go with Operation wake-you-up, but it failed again. We're pretty pissed at your for sleeping through EVERYTHING we did. How do you do that?!" Wendy complained.
"Are you guys seriously doing that? Well, what did you guys do this time?" William asks everyone - more specifically, me.
I sighed, "well this time-"
----------------------------|------------------------------|------------------------
it may be the last day of summer vacation. Any normal soon-to-be high school student would want to sleep in for a few more hours, but definitely not me. I still have operation wake-William-up to finish! It was more of a bet, really, but over the days it had turned into an operation to wake our brother, William, up. It might seem simple, but Mr Sleepyhead sleeps through everything. I swear he will still be snoring even when an elephant, heck even a dozen of them storms into his room.
But because I wanted to try more ways, I ended up waking earlier than when Vera comes into my room. In fact, I was nearly done putting on my makeup when Vera waked in.
" You're awake a lot earlier today, Rose!" Vera says surprisingly, as she plugs in her Blockers. Vera's an Empath, so she needs them to stop "hearing" everyone's emotions all the time, despite not being able to hear her own... She wakes up earlier than any of us in the household, and apparently it's because her nightmares interfere too much with her sleep.
"Yup, wanna join me in the operation?" I say while capping my mascara bottle.
"Sure! Just let me wake the others up first." Vera replies and teleports with a colourful flash of light - part of arcana-based magic as an Empath.
After placing the small bottle back on my dresser, I teleport on the spot, leaving a flash of small fire before it faded away.
I arrive mid-air inside William's room and slam into the floor. Huh, guess I need more practice teleporting. WE used to teleport outside his door, but he won't even react if you land on his bed.
"Rise and shine ya big sleepyhead!" I yell, running to the curtains and yanking them apart. Bright rays of sunlight floods the room and I can finally see where my final plan will be set up.
I try my normal tricks - who knows, maybe I didn't do them with enough power or speed? - and when i finished it (obviously, it didn't work), I go with my final plan.
With a snap or my hand, a ball of string and a small print appears right there. Conjuration is an easy type of magic, you can learn it even before your arcana presents, only thing is, you can't do it over long distances. I begin to unroll the string as I recalculate my final plan. People say that my results are terrible, but I can proudly say that my grades were top of my grade in Germany.
A bright flash of light appeared - it was Vera. " I've already called the others up. They should be coming soon. What is this plan of yours anyway?" she questions.
After explaining my entire plan, Vera looks at me "quizzingly". " So you're saying that when someone opens the door, the string there will set up a chain reaction by moving the other objects, like loud bells and alarm buzzers, and the final one is an extra large and noisy airhorn? It does sound like a good plan, but haven't you realised that there is a 50% chance that we might either teleport or walk through the door?" I groan, realising that I missed out the small but important details.
"It's fine. I've got just the thing." Vera snaps her hand and one of her creations appear - an ultra-sensitive block. She places it where the chain reaction starts, then looks back at the plan.
"I think you calculated something wrongly here. You see..." as she continues explaining my mistake, I smack my forehead repeatedly. Why was I so stupid for not doing that!
If I was clever, Vera would be a genius. She might not seem smart, but when night falls, she would study anything she could get her hands on. If she felt extra innovative that night, she would start tinkering around and create something new. I once walked into her room wondering why she was up that late, and then found out about her late night habit. Of course, I know why she can't fall asleep - we all do. We just never talk about it.
"Hey..AHHH!" Wendy teleports and immediately screams as the alarm connected to the strings had set off. The rest of the alarms start to buzz, and so does the airhorn.
"Alright, get ready for 2nd time!" I holler to Vera in the midst of the deafening sound of the alarms. She turns to me and gives me thumbs up.
--------------------|-------------------------------|--------------------------
After many failed rounds, all of my siblings (except William) and I lay on the carpeted floor, wondering how we should wake William up.
Suddenly, Micheal's stomach growls. "Hehe guess I'm hungry." He laughs sheepishly. Chora leaps up and takes out her from her pocket. "Wow! It's already eleven..guess we wasted 3 hours trying to wake him up. Let's go down for brunch then!"
"Hey it's ok if we fail today you guys," Sean notices our disappointment and tries to cheer us up. "We always have next year. Oh oh perhaps even in the dormitories! We can always learn form our mistakes and try again! Nothing is impossible!" He began floating around and filling the room with stars.
"Um...doesn't it seem a bit too...too...much?" Wendy questions as she thugs at Sean's leg.
"It reminds me of the scene in an anime when the captain of a sports team gives his team a pep talk. Then that talk somehow makes them invincible and they win" Sean stated.
"Don't you think that that's a bit too cliche?" Vera asked, her face unchanging.
"What..!" Sean suddenly drops on the floor, taking Wendy down with him. "Hey! Don't just do that. I am here!" she snaps.
Both Micheal and Liam help them up. "Well Sean is pretty right. We'll always have next time," Liam defends Sean.
I ruffle Sean's blonde, fluffy hair. "Awww look, my starling is so motivating."
"Don't call me that..." Sean whines.
Micheal's stomach growls loudly again. "Can we go now, please?"
------------------|--------------------------------|------------------------
Edward stops us. "Speaking of wasting time, I hope you all have paced. We are leaving for Academy of Arcana studies soon."
As soon as he says that, hell releases again. Sean is floating around again, Wendy's flying a few feet up with Sean, William is squealing like a little school girl, Micheal's voice sounds like he swallowed 5kg of helium as he talks unusually fast to Vera, Vera is actually smiling a bit, and both Chora and Liam are jumping around.
And there I am, sitting there like a proud sister.
