Toei Animation Rant

Yesterday, during lunch at school, tsarwars and another friend of mine were had a small discussion about Toei Animation. We've come to the same conclusion. They're half-ass money grabbers.

As a reminder, Toei Animation is the same company that has animated Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon, One Piece, and Toriko. All are big name series (One Piece and Dragon Ball are the biggest internationally known manga series ever) and bring in LOTS and LOTS of money with toys, games, DVD sales, etc. yet we still get animation qualities like episode 5 of Super.

Seriously? You are the most wealthy animation company in Japan and yet you cut corners? Some of you have already noticed the reused animations in recent Super episodes, but I can give those a bit of a pass because they're using their top animators for the one hour One Piece and Super specials. These animators include the same animators who animated Super episode 63, 66, and 95 (they did others too, but these are the most notable).

As shown by these clips, Toei has the animators as well to create Madhouse, Bones, and A-1 type anime, but they still insist on cutting corners.

Another thing that most of you might've noticed is that I haven't even mentioned the One Piece anime. Why? Because I refuse to watch it for two reasons. Pointless filler AND stretching out each chapter of the manga to make one episode. Seriously? Madhouse was able to take the first 9 volumes of One Punch Man and create 12 episodes, but it takes Toei a chapter per episode? If that's not money grubbing then I don't know what is.

As for the afore mentioned filler, Toei is notorious nowadays for bad filler. Sure, back in the day they did have filler episodes of Dragon Ball in which it was spent charging blasts, but that was back when they didn't stretch out a chapter into an episode. However, their filler episodes were decent at least back in the day. For example, Saint Seiya had an entire arc of filler that was arguably the greatest filler arc of all-time AND it helped enhance the story as a whole.

Here are all the big name products Toei owns:

Dragon Ball
One Piece
Sailor Moon
Saint Seiya
Fist of the North Star
Power Rangers
Slam Dunk
Yu-Gi-Oh
Digimon

With primarily household names in terms of anime and Japanese television, you'd think they'd have enough money to not only raise the quality of their anime but also hire better animators and pay them better than what they're getting now (which is barely enough to get ends meat). Toei pretty much steps all over "quality over quantity".

Toei is getting 3 chances from me: The One Piece one-hour special, the Dragon Ball Super one-hour special, and the Netflix remake of Saint Seiya.

The first two, I have faith that they will look gorgeous, but it's the Saint Seiya remake that'll really make or break Toei Animation for me. If they don't do AT LEAST better than the Godawful Berserk anime remakes, I will honestly quit the Super anime and just read the manga once a month.

With that being said, reports have come out that the Saint Seiya remake will look sort of like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (specifically part 4, Diamond is Unbreakable) and if any of you have seen the JoJo's anime, you know how gorgeous it is! Here's a clip:

(Don't ask what's going on in the clip. It's a BIZARRE adventure)

With all this being said, Toei, step your game up or it'll be the end of the company as whole.

Hope you enjoyed this post and tell me what you think the comments! Have a good day! ^^
