I slowly step backwards, jumping slightly as my back hits the wall. I let out a slight sigh of relief as I slowly make my way down the dimly-lit hall.
"I just need to get out of here and find the others." I keep quietly repeating to myself. I mentally curse them for leaving me behind. Gasping at the sound of footsteps behind me, I run down the hall and around the corner. I stop, doubling over with my hands on my knees, trying to catching my breath. I stand straight up again, walking forward at a face pace into the darkness that soon surrounds me entirely.
Squinting slightly as my eyes try to adjust, I run into something tall and thin. I go to scream as I realize it's one of the things I've been trying to avoid this whole time.
Screaming at the top of my lungs, I run past the slender figure and continues down the hallway. I speed around the corner and out the door that was in front of me. I shield my eyes, the streetlight blinding me momentarily. As I move my hand from in front of my eyes, I see my friends walking over, smiling and cheering. I look back at the building behind me as it looms over us in the night. I turn back to my friends, smiling.
I had survived my first haunted house.
