The blinds were pulled wide open, allowing plenty of warm sunshine to travel inside of the house. Little dust particles floated around in the air, some settling onto the oak coffee table in front of the couch. On this coffee table was an almost-new Lenovo laptop. On that Lenovo laptop were thin, lanky fingers. Those fingers belonged to Jaelyn, whose eyes we glued to the computer screen. She had several tabs open, all of them social media websites. Currently, she was lazily browsing through Instagram, a network meant to share images.
Jaelyn sniffled, some of the excited pieces of dust traveling up her nose. She blinked, her eyelids drooping in exhaustion. Suddenly, she felt hot breath blow onto the back of her neck. Goosebumps formed all the way up her spine. Soft, but tender lips were pressed up against her shoulder. Jaelyn's veins felt like sunshine. Then, she felt strong, muscular arms wrap around her chest. Snickering, she lifted her head up. And there he was, -her prince charming- staring down into her chocolate brown eyes.
"Hey baby," He said, kissing her forehead sweetly. "What're you doin' today?" Jaelyn gracefully slipped out of his tight embrace, turning around to face him. "Just the usual." Nixon raised an eyebrow, cocking his head to the side. "By the usual, you mean wasting your time on the internet?" There was a smile on his face. He was just joking. Giggling, Jaelyn playfully pushed his shoulders. ''Oh hush, It's more fun than you think." Nixon rolled his eyes. "Of course it is."
Jaelyn broke her perfect posture, slouching back onto the cough. Nixon climbed onto the couch with her, and snuggled right next to her side. He buried his nose in her hair, closing his eyes. It smelled like vanilla. ''So, what are you doing today?" Jaelyn asked sedately. "The usual." Nixon said, winking at her. Jaelyn burst into laughter, her snickers dying down only when he pushed the back of her head into his chest. "Anyways, I'm probably going to go hang out with Mark and the guys after work." Jaelyn's happy gaze faltered. "Again?" She asked.
Nixon gently rose from the couch, starting towards the kitchen. "What do you mean, 'again'?" he said. Jaelyn scoffed, rolling her eyes. "I mean that you've been going to Mark's place for the past two weeks. You always stay there for a very long time. I worry about you. . ." After hearing that, Nixon immediately spun around and stood in front of her. He cupped her face in his hand, and then kissed her feverishly against the lips. Jaelyn felt like she was in heaven. ''I'm fine, I can handle myself. You need to stop worrying about me, babe." Nixon told her firmly.
"That's easier said that done," Jaelyn mumbled softly, resting her head on her hands. ''Do you trust me or not?" Nixon blurted. "Of course I do!" Jaelyn jumped up. "Then why won't you let me see my friends?" He replied agitatedly, his patience with her growing short. ''You're allowed to see your friends, I never said that you couldn't! I'm just sad because we never spend time with each other anymore." Jaelyn said, her voice desperate and flustered. Nixon sighed. "Not recently. I'll make it up to you though." Jaelyn bit her lip, thoughts clouding her mind. He said that last week; and the week before that. "Okay." She succumbed to his words. Jaelyn knew that if she didn't comply, she was bargaining for MUCH more anger.
Nixon heaved an exasperated sigh, rolling his eyes and heading towards the kitchen again. "Seriously, Jaelyn. Stop doing that. You're just making both of us stressed. I get that you care, but I'm a free spirit. I long for some time to myself." Jaelyn sat quietly on the couch, absorbing all of his words silently. Nixon opened the fridge and reached for the milk carton. He chugged down the last couple ounces or so, and then tossed it towards the trash. He missed; he didn't pick it up.
Walking over to the coat rack, Nixon grabbed his jacket and slipped it onto himself in a hurried manner. He opened the door, and then paused. Turning around, he headed back towards Jaelyn and gave her a quick hug. ''Get off the computer, it's going to ruin your eyes." And with that, he headed out of the door and disappeared. He didn't close it.
Jaelyn stood up from the couch, walking slowly over to the door and closing it. It had become a routine to clean up after all of Nixon's messes. He never bothered to pitch in, or ask her if she needed any help. He just expected her to do all of it, and if she missed a day, she got scolded. It was more like Nixon was her father rather than her boyfriend.
He always gets mad when he doesn't get his way, like a little kid. But, Jaelyn -for some odd reason- still stuck with him. She couldn't bare wiping the memories of their innocent and lovesick childhood away. No matter what he did to her, Jaelyn was going to stay. And that might be the worst decision she ever made in her life.
It turned out that the milk carton still had some liquid inside of it, causing all of that to spill onto the marble floor. Bending down, Jaelyn wiped up the mess and threw the carton into the trash. She made it. Sighing, she stood back up and then waltzed over to her computer. She plopped down onto the couch and was about to start scrolling through Tumblr, but then she remembered what Nixon had told her. Get off the computer, it's going to ruin your eyes. Jaelyn closed the computer with a sigh, and resorted to cleaning the house while he was away.
It was going to be a long day.
And night.
