[the heist]

3:15 pm (45 minutes remaining)

Parking my car a block away from the bank, only because parking in New York City absolutely sucked ass, I grabbed my purse and files. Annoyed, I slammed the door shut, and prepared for my walk to the bank. Today everything was going absolutely wrong, so of course I expected something else to not go my way at the bank.

After sweating my ass off, I made my way to the bank, trying to catch my breath. Hell, I wasn't used to this much walking. I walked up the concrete stairs that leading up to the glass doors of the bank. Placing my hand on the golden handle, I pulled open the door, and let myself in. Unlike most banks, it was quite loud due to the size of the place that held the crowds of people.

3:23 pm (37 minutes remaining)

It was busy like I had expected, but it could have been worse. I made my way to the back of the bank, waiting in the cue to get to my bank safe just like the 10 other people in front of me. I was told to keep some papers away in the companies bank locker so they were safe. Of course the entirety of my day leading up to this point had me constantly paranoid that I would lose those files.

I carefully placed the files in my bag, using my free hands to pull out my phone and waste my time until it was my turn. In front of me was a woman with her 4 year old child. That child running in circles around her mother was far more interesting than the work related messages that I did not want to check. I was surprised at that mothers level of patience, because just watching that child run like that was already testing mine.

I looked down at the little girl with blonde curls and deep brown eyes, making a funny face at her to get her to stop running. She stopped running, with one arm wrapped around her mother's legs. She looked up at me and gave me a small wave. I waved back, and she shyly hid back behind her mother's legs.

"My name is Leighton." She told me with her little voice, and the bank was probably too loud for her mother to realize that she was talking to me, a stranger.

"Hi Leighton. My name is Mila." I crouched down to her level, so I seemed a little less intimidating.

We slowly moved forward in the line, and Leighton began telling me about her day at school. It was quite cute seeing her ramble on and on about what her day consisted of. I mean it sounded a whole lot more exciting than mine. She then began telling me all about the green checkered turtle on her pink shirt. All I could was nod and smile.

3:46 pm (14 minutes remaining)

This little girl had made my time go by so much faster, that it was eventually her mother's turn to get her safe unlocked, meaning I was next. As Leighton walked away, waving back at me, I gave her a small wave and waited for my turn. I got out my ID and information they needed for me to get access to that locker. I was called up to the desk and presented my papers to her. After checking thoroughly, I was led to my locker and it was unlocked for me.

The lady left, and I got out my papers that I was meant to keep in there. I put them inside the locker, feeling a wave of relief sweep across me, because now those papers were no longer my problem. I double checked my purse for an extra papers that could have fallen out before shutting the locker, that automatically locked. I looked beside me, and a couple feet away from me was Leighton and her mother.

3:59 pm (1 minute remaining)

I pulled out my phone to text my boss that I had successful put away the clips like she had asked me to, and I was ready to go. I watched as Leighton followed behind her mother, on her way out of the room full of hundreds of lockers. Leighton looked back at me, giving me a smile, not really following her mother who was pushing a stroller that held, who I was assuming was, Leighton's brother.
