Zach's POV-
Today was a Friday, my parents were out of town. I was home alone. Normally I wouldn't leave my house, school was the only time I did, but I got ready put on really nice black ripped jeans with a blue hoodie, I did my hair the same way as always. I was wearing my vans, white and black. Went with everything.
Grabbing my phone and my wallet I set out onto the streets towards the small mall on the other side of town. See, me and my family live on the really poor side of our city, where drug dealers live. Mostly this side is just full of idiots who waste their life away, steal, hurt innocent people. It was an ugly side where I myself didn't feel safe. When I got to the subway, I grabbed the train to the mall. Sitting alone with my headphones in, looking at the darkening sky above. The ride was not so long, but. Boring. When we stopped ok left immediately, walking with my hands in my hoodie pockets I walked towards the mall entrance. I didn't have much money, actually I only probably had enough for something under a dollar.
Walking in I took my earbuds out, walking down the halls near where the food court was, I was going to get a drink and sit to warm up before I went looking around. I ordered my drink, paid. Surprised I had enough and sat down alone rubbing my hands together, definitely was getting colder outside. Probably should have warm a jacket.
As I sat there, I heard laughing. Now this place was honestly so empty, the laughing was pretty loud, a few guys. Who wore school jerseys, looking pretty rich walked into the court. My eyes darting to the one. His facial expressions made me blush and that's when I looked back at my phone, my old ass phone. That couldn't even download new apps. All I had was Facebook. Nobody ever uses Facebook! ...
After my drink was gone, I left the food court. Leaving the cute guy and his friends as I walked by a few stores. A lot of them, expensive. My eyes latched on a guitar. This, one made my heart stop. I had to have it, but... It's only a dream, I read the price as I walked into the music store "hah, year right." I mumbled as I looked around a little more. Leaving the store I walked up the stairs to the clothing stores, where I haven't been for a long time. The last time I got new clothes was probably six months ago, for school.
I looked around. At all the pretty amazing details, fabrics. But the prices made my eyes water, how could someone spend so much on items like this, really. Right before I left I watched the cute guy go into a shop by himself, his friends must have left him.
Over the speaker, some lady said the mall was closing in twelve minutes, giving me only a few seconds to get out. But when I checked the time on the last train, I had missed it. It was twenty minutes ago and here I was dying over clothes I will never have...I ran down the stairs almost tripping, making a fool of myself, a few people looked at me like I was crazy. When I made it to the doors my mouth dropped, it was pouring. Not only did I have to walk, it had been raining... With a sigh I stood there, hugging myself. Creating heat. Before I walked out into the cold rain. I made it maybe past half the parking lot when I heard someone yell. "Hey boy!" I turned around. And it was him. 'I'm not a boy' I wanted to say, but instead I silently gave my attention. "Here, I got a few for me and my friends, they left so...I don't need it...looks like you'll need one." He smiled handing me an umbrella. My heart sank. He wasn't a jerk...he seemed really sweet. "Oh, thanks!" My red cold hand left my pocket and reached out. "Where are you heading?" He asked pretty much yelling over the rain as he stood under his own umbrella. "South, the south side.." I mumbled out, ashamed of where I was heading. But it was the truth. "I'll walk with you, I only live ten minutes away from mid west and that's close to south." He smiled. Beginning to walk.
I had to admit. It was better than walking alone.
The walk was silent unless he brought up the convo that ended fast, I could tell he was social but..I wasn't.. When we entered mid west, he said his goodbyes and I waved him off. Dang it! I didn't get his name! ...
