Sam had lived by himself for less than a month now. Well, of course, he just moved. But the thing was that... He was slowly running out of money. School obviously cost too much, and his job didn't pay nearly as much as it should have. He couldn't ask John or Dean to give him any money. As much as he didn't want it to be so, it seemed that he only had one options. He had to find...
A roommate.
A tragedy right? Yes. Sam knew, even as he put up the flyer on the walls of the school, that a roommate would ruin his apartment. They would be messy and noisy and bring people back constantly. Because that's how people who need a roommate are. They're the kind of people who were to lazy or unfocused that they couldn't keep up a job, and probably dropped out of school.
Sam reluctantly placed a flyer on the wall of every other hallway before stopping. Someone was going to find one, obviously. It wouldn't be too long before they contacted him. He sighed as he put the tape and extra papers back in his bag and started walking back to his apartment. He swirled his coffee cup in his hand, stirring up the tea leaves that settled at the bottom. Tea probably didn't help his financial situation but he couldn't cut that out of his life.
Sam smiled slightly and lifted his head as he walked past a few friends. They waved but didn't say anything as they walked by. Of course- they weren't close friends, just people he didn't mind talking to or occasionally hanging out with. They never came over to his house and he never went to theirs. You know- that kind of friend.
The sidewalk was packed with people leaving or hurrying to classes just like it always was. Sam towered above the other students. It obviously wasn't his fault he was the way he was. But with his height and clothing consisting mainly of dark browns and blacks, many people found his kind of intimidating and steered clear of his direction. It was never hard to find his way through a crowd.
The sea of college-age students broke as Sam stepped off the sidewalk and crossed the street.
Midday was never fun. The sun shone down hot in September and everything seemed to move in a lazy, still-summer haze. Sam ran his fingers through his long brown hair and and shook it out- a completely stupid habit as it never did anything, but one he could never seem to give up. His bike was locked a block from the main building and luckily for him, it hadn't been destroyed or dismantled for parts. He wrapped the lock around the handles and swung on top, nearly knocking some girl over as he sped off. He called back an apology over his shoulder- but it wasn't a real one. He didn't have time for other people right then.
He couldn't stand having to get a roommate. The idea of it made Sam grimace. He liked his so-called shell. No one bothered him on the inside.
God it was so hot. Only a few minutes of riding caused sweat to shine on his forehead and the back of his neck. You could imagine just how gross he felt when he finally got back to his apartment. He shoved his bike in the rack and trudged up the stairs to his floor. The building was hot and Sam flipped on just about every fan he owned- a grand total of around three.
His only option was to drop his bag and strip off his clothes. It was too hot for it to only be September. He dropped on the ground after he angled all of the fans towards himself and opened the windows. Standing by the window in his underwear wasn't the greatest idea. He rolled his eyes as a few cat-calls came up from the sidewalk. The carpet ended up getting too hot and he groaned.
After a moment he groaned again and sat up. He did have schoolwork to do. He crawled over to his laptop and started working quickly. He looked to the corner of the screen when an alert popped up. An email? It had been just over an hour, no one would have contacted him about the roommate thing already and his family never talked to him.
