Blindsided

Chapter 1

It all started back in 5th grade.

There was this kid I really liked named Jack. I had liked him for at least a year. I had told my (now ex) best friend Emily a while ago and I wasn't sure if she remembered that I liked him.

I sometimes saw saw Emily looking at Jack weird, but I always pushed the strange thought.

Until that day.

It was near the end of the year of 5th grade, and everyone was excited for middle school. I was a huge tomboy back then, and I never got my hopes up about someone liking me, but I didn't really mind.

Until that day.

We were at recess and me and Emily were talking to our friend, Donny. Just then, Jack's friend Mike came up to us. "Hey guys, um... Emily, Jack wants to know if you wanna go out with him." Mike lets it all out in on breath. Suddenly, the meaning of his words hits me. The school and playground disappear. I go numb and I almost drop to the ground. A deep pang of sadness hits me. I remember my friend Evan talking about Jack, and that he liked me at islandwood, this camp my school went to in october. When he told me that, I could barely keep the grin off my face. But... now this. Jack likes my best friend.

And I've liked him for at least a year. Pretty much since the first time I saw him. Emily's voice brings me back to Earth. "Uh... sure, he's cute," she laughs a little. Mike grins. "Cool, I'll tell Jack." He waves at us and runs across the playground to his friends and Jack. I clenched my fists together as I stared at Emily. She smiled at me. I couldn't believe it. The guy that I've had a crush on since 4th is now dating my best friend.
