There she sat sitting at the desk finishing up the last part of her essay. It's not an essay per say. Actually a résumé for a job up in the city. The résumé is consisted of a English and Writing major. With many career choices on it. It ranged from being an editor to others. Plus, she also has a business degree.

Her plan is to take over a shop which is left behind for her. Except one thing is for sure. She's an orphan. Left on a door step to a young couples house since a baby. She always thought that whoever dropped her off thought the house was an orphanage. Whatever the circumstance of being left to a shop in the city was always unnerving to think about.

Finishing up the last of her résumé she goes to Ambrose docs. It's been a little while, but she has a knack of writing short stories. This one is a fantasy. It's based on a daydream that always stuck to her mind. From the start of her story a woman's memories come to light in a hospital room where the woman lay. The story starts nearly sixteen years ago when she rows a boat out in a body of water. Nearly committing suicide but surviving from a rescuer.

Done with a finished page she closes her laptop. Soon after that someone knocks on the door. She clears her throat and asks, "Yes?" The door opens with a woman in her late thirties with hair up in a bun. Showing off her messy brown hair and bright green eyes lighting up at the sight of her adopted daughter. A few wrinkles here and there. Not much but a full face with how she got to know the young woman in front of her.

A smile crinkles at the older woman's lips. Saying just about anything. "Working on a story, again?" While pointing towards the laptop. This perks up the young woman's ears. "Yes, actually. It's a fantasy." Both of the women talk about the short stories written and read. Turning their grins into full blown laughter. Some of the stories are filled with embarrassment of some sort. And funny moments. It soon turned into light laughter.

The women talked their hearts out until there's nothing else to speak of. The older woman kept smiling and knew she had to say something. "We ordered pizza. Pineapple and ham just how you like it."

Knowing that that wasn't enough she started to talk again. This time about the move to the city. New York City. Her daughter went off to Pittsburgh, PA, for a few years. Earning her way to write. Always saved up for these types of things. Since a toddler she was head strong. The best child to ever ask for.

"Maude Sixon, I will and still always love you! You are my daughter! DNA will not change a thing." Her mother said while gently holding onto Maude's hand. Maude held on tightly not wanting to let go. True to her mothers word everything that she's told will never be false. Even her choice to move to New York. Besides there's something there waiting for her. Or rather someone that doesn't want to be found.

Dead or alive.

Maude's mother slips away from her embrace exiting the room. What her mother said got her to thinking. Her biological family never came for her, but with the Sixon's it felt like a real family. Anika and Gerald are always there for her. It's an adventure everyday with them. As her parents they were never strict with her.

She got up from her bed and started for the door. Looking behind her everything sat still. Nothing was ever going to change, she thought. And with that she slipped out the door.

A week later....

Maude threw the last of the clothes in her suitcase and zipped it up. She felt a light tap on her shoulder. Turning only her head she gave a small smile. It's time to go, her conscious told her. A colleague of hers takes one of the suitcases and takes it downstairs. Finishing up with last minute details she takes a look around the room. It holds so many memories as so does the rest of the house. The bed is stripped of pillows, covers, and duvets. Dresser is as vacant as ever. Vanity has no more makeup on it other than the stains.

She will miss it and hope for greater things.
