back to school.

"daisy! are you sure you don't want a lift to school? there are alot of cars and buses about since it's the first day and all and you're walking by yourself-"

"mom, I'll be fine, I promise!" I interrupted, as I ran down the stairs and pulled some boots on. I gently gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"alright" she quickly embraced me. "you look nice today, dear"

"thanks mom" I looked down to check if my outfit was okay.

then I smiled, and she exchanged one back. I could tell it was fake, and she was worried. things haven't been the same since my older sister Willow died.

I remember it like it was yesterday. It happened at the start of last summer. i remember sitting at the kitchen table reading a book when she told me that she was going out to meet her friend for an hour or so.she never came back.

it was in the evening; the sun was setting. mom and dad arrived shortly later after Willow had left. an hour passed. no sign of her. no text, no call, nothing. I was slightly worried. but it was willow, she was fine, right? If she was in any sort of trouble then she would be able to get out of it. She was strong and brave, a person that I looked up to enormously.

an unexpected visitor showed up at our house. it was the man who lived up the lane from us, he was a paramedic. he told us that there was an out of control driver on the road and willow was the unfortunate one to get ran over; she in hospital as we speak. mom's face turned white. dad gasped. a tear escaped onto my cheek.

waiting for her seemed like years. we weren't allowed in, of course. dad tried to make conversation with some other people in the waiting room. it didn't work, as when he gets nervous he stutters a lot, and the conversation ended quickly. on the other hand mom just sat in silence the whole time, trembling. and me, I waited. I waited the whole time to hear four words.

"She didn't make it."
