CHAPTER FOUR

My name is Harry Igwello. I was born in Wales. My parents, Catherine and George, are from two opposite ends of the UK. My mum is Irish and my dad is Scottish. They met and bought a house in Pwllheli, Wales. Two years later they got married and had a baby boy. They named him Gary. Then seven years later I was born. I was a normal baby. Not too fat and not too thin. I was named Harry Igwello on my second day on planet earth.

When I was two my brother went out to put the rubbish in the bin and never returned. When his room was checked all his clothes had gone with him. I was never told why he left but deep down I knew it was my fault.

Anyway, enough about my brother, I am going to tell you about my life from the age of three all the up to the night before my life changed forever.

The age of three: it’s all a blur.

The age of four: blur.

The age of five: fell out of window but survived with only a broken leg. Also my best friend, who was a girl, moved house.

The age of six, seven and eight: nothing important happened.

When I was nine we received a letter from my brother. I was never allowed to read it.

Up to the age of twenty-four my life was pretty simple as I made friends, lost them, got a job, left school, failed my exams, got fired, got bladder, had hangovers, did some drugs, moved out, got a new job and that was why my life went so wrong.

I was living in a town called St. David’s, a small, little town in Wales. I was looking for a job, one day, when suddenly a car drove up next to me and stopped just in front of me. When I reached the car, the passenger wound down the window a said ‘You looking for a job?’ So causally but wary I replied ‘Yes.’ The car then drove about a meter and the side door to the back of the van opened and I was pulled in.

I was taken to an unknown, to me, location and told to get out of the van. I was half way out of the van when it sped away. I was instantly knocked on the floor. Suddenly, from out of the shadows a man, dressed in purple, grey and other mystical colours, walked towards me. He said nothing for a while then spoke in a low voice, which surprised me. He said ‘You now work for me. You will receive £1,000 for every job you do for me. All you have to do is sign this contract.’

Unaware, of what could happen, I signed the contract.

Then he said, to the guards who had walked towards be from behind, ‘Take him back home.’

Before I left I shouted out, half way in the van, ‘When is my first job?’

My question was answered with a quick reply of ‘We will be in touch.’

After that my world went wrong. It was all because of them getting ‘in touch’. I had signed myself up to a group of people who committed crimes. Not the little ones either. They committed the big crimes like bank raids and diamond heist. Soon I was on the run and wasn’t allowed back to my flat. I was told if I went back I would be arrested and that I’d squeal on them. I told them I wouldn’t but they didn’t believe me.

I’m down at the shops. Whilst buying the essentials I bumped into the tall, dark haired, slim looking woman. We were by the fringe cupboard when I reached for the door and she did so also. Our hands touched just as we hit the handle and then we looked into each other’s eyes and I could see her contact lenses. So then I pulled away and so did she. Then I opened the fridge and I reached for the last 4 pints semi-skinned milk. Once again she reached for the same thing I did and that’show I found out her name. We both grabbed hold of the milk and instead of holding it in place we pulled it and didn’t let go. After about 2 minutes of pulling we started a vocal fight. That didn’t go nicely and by law I'm not allowed to repeat any off it.
