Time After Time

I froze and held onto the frail limb of the oak tree, my netted glove sticking to the rough bark. Cold rain splattered my face as I looked at the darkening clouds swarming overhead. My feet skidding, I jumped down from the chair-like branches and landed on a rock. Shocks ran up my shins, but I ignored it and dully walked to the grave of my cat.
Someone next to me patted my shoulder and I swiveled my head to the left and peered past my shoulder. Staring at her face, I noted the wavy brown hair that fell onto her shoulders, framing her pretty face. Her navy eyes switched to green, then to gray. Samy was beautiful against the gray world, her jacket bright.
"This isn't the way life should be." I said.
"Of course not. But life happens," Samy replied. "And I'll be by your side, time after time."
