Gregory was taking a much needed day off, he didn't like taking breaks but the chief insisted that after yesterday's case he needed a bit of a breather. He of course was still a cop so if he happened to see an Omega who needed him he could still help.

He decided to stop by a new cafe that he'd yet to have time to check out. It was a nice establishment but he didn't seem to fit this crowd. Mostly college students.

Ian worked behind the counter running around to fill orders glaring at a couple of alphas that made passes at him.

Gregory saw that some less than gentlemanly alphas were hassling the omega who was attempting to do his job.

"Excuse me sirs," he said, showing his badge "if you aren't ordering anything, move on. Some of us are busy."

"I don't need protection!" Ian snapped glaring at the alpha setting a few cups down calling out an order.

"I didn't say you did. But they were causing a ruckus and I really do intend to enjoy an iced hazelnut coffee." he assured him. Ian sighed putting it in the register.

"$2.98." he said tapping his foot. Gregory pulled out 3 dollars from his wallet and handed them to the seemingly annoyed cashier

Ian took the money giving him his change before walking off, being the only one working that day and the place being packed.

The officer stood at the counter and waited, noticing it had been quite a busy day

Ian got his order out calling it before going back to the register.

"Thank you" he nodded and sat on one of the bar stool seats right by the counter.

Ian sighed when the line finally ended his face showing fatigue.

"Busy day for one employee. Why isn't anyone working today?" Asked Gregory as he sipped his coffee.

"No one came in. It's fine." The omega said softly.

"Its not fine. Why don't people do their jobs? Its their responsibility." he insisted.

"It's fine!" He snapped. "If an alpha was back here doing it you wouldn't say shit. You'd probably even congratulate them for doing it on their own!"

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to imply that what you're doing isnt impressive. I just know you aren't enjoying yourself." he insisted

"It's what pays my bills. Excuse me for not having the same rights as you. Excuse me for not being able to get an education beyond high school because of my secondary gender." He snapped back.

"Trust me I'm the last person to ever think omegas are inferior to alphas. I really do wish you had more rights so you could more easily be independent." he insisted again

"Whatever." The younger said sighing, walking to the back to restock.

Gregory sipped his coffee and looked down at his cup. Victims loved him but he couldn't date them. He could date civilians but they seemed to hate him. What a catch 22.

Ian came back out his face flushed as he switched the open sign to closed.

"Oh.... so you're closed" he muttered as he sipped his coffee "this is awkward."

"I'll be closed when everyone leaves." He snapped

"Ah I see. So for me you're still open." he nodded and enjoyed his drink. "Can I try an iced mocha too?"

Ian nodded making it. "it'll have to be to go. I need to get home."

"What are you in a rush for? You have someone waiting for you at home?" He asked curiously.

"My heats starting." He mumbled looking away.

"Do you need help getting home?" He offered "someone could hurt you" he pointed out.

"I'm fine." He told him watching the drink blend

"Sir I'm a police officer of the omega protection department, I really dont mind escorting you home."

"I said I was fine!" He yelled his face turning red.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to help." He said gently

"Maybe you should start listening." He snapped handing him the coffee

"Its just my job sir. How much will this coffee be?" He asked nervously.

"It's free." The omega said taking of his apron Gregory the only customer left now.

"I see." he muttered and walked to the exit ".... I could drive you if you don't have a car. " he offered

"I'm fine thank you." He told him once again.

"You're welcome." he muttered and headed out to his car to drive home

Ian locked up the shop and headed out shifting uncomfortably

Gregory felt terrible for letting an on the verge of heat omega head out on his own, so he decided he'd have to come back to the coffee place every day until he saw him again.
