"June 13th 2011 I have Kaitlin Helcomp in here as a witness of the mass murder of the Helcomps. The whole family was shot in the head by the Father's gun and the whole house was burned down with the whole family inside. Most of them were burned to the extent that they are unrecognizable, except for Kaitlin and Kasher who were both found in the bathtub full of cold water. The victims are: the father, Kristoff Helcomp age 43. The mother Kirsten Helcomp age 39. Kaitlin Helcomp age 16. Kalex Helcomp age 14. Kanielle Helcomp age 13. Kasher Helcomp age 11. Kilton Helcomp age 6. Kaitlin and Kasher are the only ones who survived," said Officer Ian Rosling, the chief police inspector that is handling the Helcomp case. They have been sitting here for almost an hour now. Kaitlin does not want to talk, she kept her mouth shut and just continue to whisper inaudible things in front of the Officer which did not help with his temper. It has been 3 weeks since the incident happened and the investigation is left in a stump, almost everything is incarcerated and the people . The murder weapon was scorched, the entire family was murdered, and the ones who survived either does not know anything or does not remember a thing. "Kaitlin, what do you remember from that 4pm afternoon till 7:30pm when the house was burning?" His lips formed into a tight straight line, his eyes looking intently at the poor disarranged teenager in front of him. He cannot give in on this case. He cannot let another murderer escape because the witnesses are all in the loony bin, either not remembering anything or is already too far gone to even be a reliable witness. He is desperate to say the less. He needs this, he needs his witness to put this murderer behind bars.
"I... I got back home from school," she said while glancing sideways, as if checking for approval of others that are not in the room. "Uncle Jax drove me back home. Uncle Jax is a really nice person. He picks me and my siblings up from school every other day. But that day I was the only one in the car." There was a pause, she was staring around her again seeking. She breathed heavily as she tried to recall that night. She doesn't know why she is having troubles like these. Her memory used to be impeccable. Beads of cold sweat appeared on her forehead, her knuckles are turning white as she sat there tensed and frustrated as her memory fails her for hours now.
"Kaitlin, why are you the only one in the car that time?" Officer Rosling asked, Kaitlin stared at him like she has the same question for herself. She looked confused, she knows her siblings should have been there. Why can't she remember anything? She put her hands on the side of her head.
"You have to remember Kaitlin. You are the only one who saw the murderer. You have defensive wounds that none of the other family members have. Kasher slipped in the bathroom before the attacker even got to her. You have to do this Kaitlin." Officer Rosling continued.
Kaitlin's tears now started to stream down her face. The frustration of not remembering and the grief that her family is dead dawns to her that she is now shaking uncontrollably.Kaitlin wrapped her arms around her as she slowly rocked herself mumbling things that only she can hear.
"I got out of the car and I could already hear my Mom yelling," she said her lips quivering her voice sounds choked and almost inaudible. Officer Rosling is trying to be patient but he wants results. And he wants it now. Her eyes grew bigger as she tried to search her brain as to why her mom was yelling. "I think it was because my Dad gambled away his salary again. I put on my headphones and ran into my room." She paused trying to remember what happened. She is now sobbing. "I shouldn't have done that. I should have gone to him. Maybe he would still be alive," Kaitlin started sobbing. The image of her dead brother with a bullet on his head kept on flashing into her mind. His tiny limp body was lying on the floor bathing on his own pool of blood. His usually warm hazel eyes is staring at her lifelessly. Haunting her every dream. It hurts her to remember everything that night. It physically hurts like someone is stabbing her in the chest. The image of her 6-year-old brother staring at her begging for mercy is killing her. Killing her that she can't remember who killed him. Killing her that the justice her brother deserves would never be attained because his good-for-nothing selfish sister could not remember a thing.
"Kaitlin you have to focus. Don't blame yourself. This is how you can help your brother. You have to remember," Officer Rosling urged her. Kaitlin tried to compose herself. She wiped her tears with her left hand. Officer Rosling noticed that she is a bit limp on her left hand but ignored it because the reports said she attained some defensive wounds on her left hand.
"Even with the headphones on, I could still hear Kilton crying. I ignored him. I went to my room." Kaitlin continued while she staring at the blank wall beside her still sobbing a bit. "I was just listening to... to something... Music?" She looked at the one way mirror and stared at herself. Suddenly fear was evident in her eyes, to her whole face. "Gunshots." She whispered then she started to cry again, but this time it is not of grief. It is of both anger and fear. "Gunshots." She screamed, her eyes look terrified while looking at the mirror. "I can't remember, I can't remember anything! Mom?! MOM!!!" She screamed again like a hurt animal, then was crying for a while and began screaming again. She started to scratch her head, then she vigorously began pulling her hair in different directions while screaming. Her eyes darted towards each corner till it rested on Officer Rosling. She screamed as she darts towards him. "LET ME OUT! I DON'T WANT TO BE HERE! SOMEONE'S GOING TO KILL ME!!!" She to reached for Officer Rosling, scratching him in every possible way. He tried to take her hands, but she is suddenly too quick and accurate with her actions.
"Nurse! The straight jacket! Bring her in the white room facility!" Said Dr. Alver from the other side of the one way glass. Midazolam in hand she pushed the button to let her in the room. She got hold of Kaitlin and jabbed the syringe in her neck sedating her immediately. Her eyes grew bigger when she saw Dr. Alver, the recognition you can see in her eyes slowly fades away as the drug drags her consciousness deeper into slumber.
"I told you this is not a good idea Officer Rosling." She said. She stood up and turned to the nurses by the door. "Bring Kaitlin back in her room. I want her monitored every time. Start with 5mg PO every 8 hours then reduce to 3mg after 3 doses. Switch to 50mg Quetiapine twice a day once the patient is stable. Call me when any changes occur."
