Taekwoon would call himself the luckiest man in the universe. Not to brag or anything, he just really believes that he is the luckiest person right now.
Surely, Taekwoon did not win the lottery nor did he just save some royalty's ass, no. He was lucky because of something much simpler; something that did not require money, fame or power.
Taekwoon has his family.
You may think that it's cheesy or lame, but for Taekwoon, his family is his everything. Being a father is a hard job to do, harder than any profession out there. It may sound simple, but being a parent is hard work. And the very embodiment of hard work is currently crying in the next room at three in the morning.
A shrill cry suddenly erupted in the next room. He quietly trudged to the source of the sound and found his two year-old son struggling in his crib and making grabby hands.
"Shh, Hyukkie, appa's here." The baby kept on crying, with his little fists opening and closing in an attempt to grab something. Little Hyuk went for Taekwoon's shirt and clenched his little fists there. Taekwoon rocked him some more until he felt sudden moisture on his arm. "Ah, Hyukkie, you need a change. Come on." The father, although as sleepy as he can get, took the crying infant to the changing table, where Hyuk's diapers were currently placed. Taekwoon placed his crying child on the table and started changing him. He threw the dirty diaper to the trash bin and cleaned the baby's bottom. Hyuk slowly calmed down and sucked on his thumb, closely observing his father at work. "There you go, all clean. Are you hungry, baby?" Taekwoon asked as Hyuk just stared at his father and continued to suck on his tiny thumb. Taekwoon took this as a yes and went down to the kitchen to make Hyuk his formula.
After Hyuk's formula was consumed and stowed away, Taekwoon made Hyuk burp and danced him around their little living room for a bit more. "Sleep little Hyogie, don't say a word. Appa's gonna keep you safe from the world." Taekwoon's singing made Hyuk fall back to sleep and he decided to bring the infant back to his room. He gently placed Hyuk back in his crib and tucked the baby in. Taekwoon stayed for a bit more and played with the baby's little hands as it closed on his own index finger. "Sleep well, baby." Taekwoon kissed his son's forehead and went back to his own room.
It was five thirty in the morning when Taekwoon woke up again upon hearing the door open and close. He got out of bed and went straight to the living room to find his husband on the couch. "Hey, honey, I'm home." Taekwoon walked to his husband and picked him up bridal style towards their bedroom. He kissed his chapped lips Mmust be from the cold air outside, thought Taekwoon) and laid him down on the bed. "How was your shift, Hakyeon?" He asked as the other man started removing his socks, pants and shirt, pulling on Taekwoon's own shirt and then throwing the discarded clothes to the laundry basket. "It was fine. There were three car accidents tonight, three, and one heart attack patient, but Jaehwan and I patched it all up." Hakyeon then slumped down on the warm sheets and pulled Taekwoon next to him, "You smell like antiseptics." This earned Taekwoon a smack on the head from Hakyeon, "That's what you get for marrying a nurse you, idiot." "I love you anyway. I don't care if you'll come home smelling like blood, as long as it's clean blood." Hakyeon laughed at his husband's words and kissed his cheeks. "Idiot, how in the hell does blood become clean?"
"By the way, how was Hyukkie? Were there any troubles?" Taekwoon shook his head and recalled Hyuk's diaper accident earlier that morning. Hakyeon cuddled next to Taekwoon and nodded along. "I guess I should say hi. Just stay there, you need sleep." Hakyeon got up from the bed and went to his son's room. He was instantly met with a baby standing in his crib, looking like he expected his father's arrival. "Hey there, my little Hulk. You woke up pretty early." Hakyeon approached his son who made grabby hands at him, "Up, up" He picked the baby up and kissed his chubby cheeks. "Were you good to your appa?" The baby just placed his head in the crook of Hakyeon's neck and huffed. Hakyeon cradled Hyuk some more and sang a bit. Hyuk went back to sleep and he was placed back in his crib.
