Rachel stared at the body hanging from over the stairs' rail a couple of flights above her. Her head was tilted to the side and she narrowed her eyes at the slightly swirling body of the girl who occupied the room next to her.
She scoffed at the serene look on the face of the girl who was once her room neighbour. Her head was at an awkward angle due to the rope round her neck, her skin was awfully pale and she wasn't struggling. They were signs that she was obviously dead.
Rachel had never talked to the girl, but she knew she wouldn't like her because she was just... 'eh' in her opinion. She was always doped up on medication and she barely ever knew what was going on and Rachel wasn't sure whether the nurses did it on purpose or it was a misunderstanding on the dosage of medication the girl was supposed to be on.
"Oh, my god!" one of the nurses cried when they approached where Rachel was standing, getting curious as to what the girl was looking up at. She hadn't realised or intended it to be another suicide that Rachel had witnessed. "Go and get Mrs Jensen!"
Rachel rolled her eyes and sauntered down the stairs and towards the corridor to Mrs Jensen's office. The old prude was one of Rachel's least favourite nurses here, not that she liked the rest of them. Mrs Jensen was the one she hated most and wouldn't mind to see her hanging from the stairs' rail rather than her room neighbour.
Without knocking, she opened the door and walked right up to the old lady's desk with a bored expression, "another suicide, Mrs Jensen, it's Becky and Nurse Nikki called for you."
Mrs Jensen had given up on Rachel about a year ago, she stopped trying to help her personally. She knew there was no way she was going to get through to the girl and for a while it had hurt to see her fall into the Schizophrenic patterns, especially because Mrs Jensen used to be close with Rachel's mum and watched the little girl grow for a period of time.
"Did you see it happen?" she asked as she followed the girl out to where Nurse Nikki was.
"I did," Rachel nodded.
"And you didn't try to stop her?!" Mrs Jensen rose her voice this time, a look of absolute disbelief on her face whilst she stared at Rachel's blank expression.
"There was someone up there with her," she replied with a shrug. "I didn't think-"
"Do you ever think?"
Rachel's eyes darkened and her face got hot. Shooting a glare at Mrs Jensen, she straightened out her posture and took a step closer to her.
"Don't talk to me like that," she growled, "like I said, there was someone up there with her. They were talking to her and the only reason why I stopped was because the situation looked strange and then out of know where, she just threw herself over the railing." Mrs Jensen sighed, loud and long. She shook her head at the girl she had known since she was little.
"Nikki, get the poor girl down, please. Rachel, go ask Mr Eden if he can bring a gurney and a body bag," her voice was stern and full of authority. When Mrs Jensen got like this, Rachel knew not to push her, but there was an overwhelming urge to tell her no and just go back into her room.
Leaving before Rachel could give into the overwhelming defiance building up inside of her, she sauntered down the hall and towards the lifts to go down to the basement. No other patients had the magnetic key to go down to the basement, but Rachel hated it down there and that was why she was given one because Mrs Jensen and Mr Eden both knew she wouldn't go down there unless absolutely necessary.
In the basement used to be where they housed patients with deadly illnesses in the early nineteen hundreds up to the sixties when it was shut down. The basement also used to be where the doctors would do shock therapy and other dangerous methods to "cure" some patients.
