Ashley's POV.
Babe.
That one simple word made both my blood boil and my heart break into a hundred more pieces than it already was in. I was over her, I should have been over her already. It's been 3 years since I'd last seen her, and while every day had been a struggle to get through, I'd still made it. So, how was it that that one simple little word caused my whole world to come crumbling down again?
I mean, what had I expected? That Jordan would stay single for the 3 years I was gone? Ha, it's very laughable, I know that. Am I really that naive as to hope that she would? Obviously, since that's most likely the reason my heart is now breaking again.
'Goddess, Ashley. You really are naive and dumb.' Shasta whispered in my head, causing me to roll my eyes.
'Oh whatever, Shas. Don't act like i'm the only one who thought this. You did too.' I grumbled back.
'Did not. I knew better!' She retorted.
'Oh is that so? If that were the case, then why didn't you ever stop me when you knew what I was thinking?' I asked, making her go quiet.
"Ashley!" A voice yelled from behind me.
Cameron, shit.
I slowly turned around and crossed my arms, facing the guy I had once looked up to years and years ago.
"What do you want, Cameron?" I finally asked after staring at him for a few minutes.
He hadn't changed much, still the same quiffed up light brown hair, tan skin, and muscle-y build.
"How...How're you doing?" He asked, a little hesitant.
I raised an eyebrow and scoffed, "What do you want me to say, Cameron? That I'm doing absolutely horrible and I need my brother's protection? 'Cause let's be honest, I'm not going to do that. I don't need you or whatever our pathetic excuse of a family thinks I want."
I was ranting, I knew it, he knew it, we all knew it. But I could't stop, it was 10 years worth of things that I needed to get off my chest.
"I'm sorry, Ashley, I really am. The way I treated you in the past wasn't right, and I shouldn't have done that. You're my little sister, whether you want that to be true or not, it's a fact. And because you're my little sister, and the only family I have left, next to Sam and Adrianna, it is my job to protect you as much as I possibly can..." He told me all in one breath.
I rolled my eyes, "Well, newsflash, Cameron. I don't need your protection or you as a brother. You ruined that the moment you and Jordan chased me off the lands. Right now, the only family I have left is Sam, my niece, and nephew."
After telling him that, I spun on my heels and walked away, not giving him a chance to ask about the Niece and Nephew I had spoken about. As far as he, and the Pack knew, Sam just fainted, not that he was pregnant with the children of my late brother. Or that he had given birth to said children. It was rare enough as it is to have male on male mates, getting pregnant by a wolf that had passed away years ago is even rarer, especially since he was a male.
I walked aimlessly for a while after the 'conversation' I had with Cameron and then decided that I had enough of a pity party and went back to check on Sam.
"Hey, Hey, Hey," I grinned when I walked into Sam's bedroom and saw that he was feeding Lily.
He rolled his eyes and hushed me, "What're you doing here? I thought Cameron and Jordan was throwing you some big party?"
I narrowed my eyes at him, "You knew about it and didn't tell me?! Ugh, Sammy, you know how much I hate surprises and Cameron and Jordan!"
He shrugged and gave me an innocent look.
"Sorry, but I think it's about time for you to made up with them. I know what they did to you, and as much as I hate them for everything they did, both to you and to me, I can't let you constantly be without a mate. And I especially don't want you to end up like me."
I groaned, knowing everything he was saying had truth and careful thought put into them.
"It's like you planned everything you were going to say to me."
"I didn't have to. I know you well enough to know everything you've ever thought, think, or will be thinking about."
"Don't you have better things to do?"
"I do, but you're my little sister and best friend, besides, who better to agitate than you?"
He was grinning.
"You annoy me so much."
He laughed and shook his head, "I know, but you love me."
I sighed and pretended to be sad about it, "Unfortunately."
"Go, Ashley, Go to your mate and don't let her go. Not this time." He told me, serious again.
"I...I can't though, She has a girlfriend and from the looks of it, they seem perfect together." I whispered, toying with a loose strand of thread on Xander's footie pajamas.
He raised an eyebrow, "Oh really? Who's the girl? Do we know her?"
I looked up and shrugged, "I don't know who she is. I don't even know her name. I barely got a glimpse of her when I was leaving the party."
He nodded his head and gave a thoughtful look, "Well, you should find out. See how much of a competition she is."
"Wait, why do I have to chase her? How come it's not the other way around?" I grumbled, feeling a little cheated.
"Honestly...I'm not too sure, I just feel like you should do it." He told me with a shrug.
"'Sides, what does it matter in the end? You'll get her and she'll get you. You'll live happily ever after with a few pups of your own!"
"Whatever, Sammy, whatever," I barked out a laugh. "Alright, fine. So what do you propose I do to get said girl? Need I remind you, again, that she rejected me and not the other way around."
"Well, for starters, you could lose the attitude. And then, you could...OH MY GOD, I GOT IT! YOU CAN MAKE HER JEALOUS!" He whisper/shouted, excitedly.
I stared at him blankly, "Um, Samuel...Are you sure you're 26? Sometimes I feel like you're younger than me..."
"Oh shut up." He chided me, pouting.
"You know that making the mate jealous...that never works out, right?"
He shrugged and nodded, "Yeah, but Jordan is also stubborn, so she won't outright accept you as her mate, even if she did throw you a party to apologize or whatever. She may have rejected you once, but the Moon Goddess is giving you guys a chance to fix it. So, fix it."
A/N Guess who's finally decided to update because she has some inspiration? That's right, THIS GIRL! But anyways, yeah, vote, comment, put it in your library if you like it...and until next timeeeeee!
