“That's all for now, Lord Death.” Maka spoke through the mirror in her hand.

“Very good. I shall see you when you return.” Death sipped the tea in his hands, sitting in front of his mirror in his room. Maka's image faded from the surface of the mirror. “Hmm.. a lot has happened recently. It'll be good for the students to regain a sense of normalcy. Not to mention we have a lot of work to do since the Kishin's defeat.” He paused to take another sip of tea. “Such good students, we have here.”

Students throughout the academy had returned to normal after the incident with the Kishin. The madness's influence was slowly dissolving and their job was slowly, but surely returning to normal. However, the students were oblivious to what was really going on, as too were the teachers.

In fact, Lord Death had no idea himself what was about to happen. He had left his guard down, a mistake which may prove to be fatal, because, unknown to even him there was another presence in the school. Worse than a Witch, and if smart enough, can cause more damage than a Kishin.

Lord Death turned from his mirror uneasily, thinking he had heard something moving inside the Death Room. “Is someone there?” He moved his head over to the side.

Another movement, behind him. Now he could feel another presence in the room. It wasn't a witch, a Meister or a weapon. To be truthful, he had no idea what he could sense moving around.

“You have to ask to come into the death room, you know.” He spun around quickly. He had no time to move, he felt something swallowing his entire body – no, more like his soul. He saw nothing more, and was plunged into the shadows.

“Maka, what's taking you so long? Hurry up.” Soul walked up the stairs surrounding Shibusen, impatiently waiting for his Meister to follow.

“I'm a little tired, lay off Soul.” Maka dragged behind slowly.

“We'll make it to morning class if you hurry up. We slept on the way back, it should be fine.”

Maka groaned absently. “Fine. I don't want to be late.” She quickly caught up to Soul who was now entering the doors of Shibusen.

“You seem more spaced out then usual. Anything wrong?”

Maka shrugged. “I'm tired from yesterday. Its nothing.”

“I can tell when my Meister is lying to me.”

Maka groaned again. “For someone who fails tests, you're surprisingly smart, Soul.” Soul grinned, pushing through the door into their classroom.

Stein glared at them, his glasses shining and his face pulled into a twisted smile. “You're late Maka, Soul.”

Soul gulped, Maka woke right up. “Sorry Professor Stein, we went on a mission last night.” Maka straightened up.

“Well.” Stein began, his smile fading. “Don't be late again.”

Soul didn't hide his confusion. “Huh?”

Maka pushed him through the door. “We're lucky, lets go Soul, just accept it.” Soul moved slowly while Maka laid her weight against him.

“If you're late again, I'll have to punish you...” Stein's grin crept back on to his face.

Maka pushed him all the way to his seat in seconds. Stein rolled his chair across the floor, adjusting in front of his desk. “Now class, today we get to do something very exciting...”

The whole class groaned, speaking when Stein did. “Dissections.”

Don't worry, it'll be better than usual.” Stein presented an animal that looked like a cross between a cow and a pig... except, purple. “Last time we tried to dissect a rare species like this we were interrupted, but don't worry, we should be able to this time without any interru-”

Before Stein could finish Lord Death's voice was heard through the mirrors hanging in the classroom. “Could all teachers please report to the Death Room for a meeting?”

Stein groaned. “Alright class. Take out your books and write notes for the chapters 80 – 212 while I'm gone.” He rolled his chair across the floor, making a sharp turn and proceeding out the door – when his chair hit a rock on the ground and he hit the floor backwards. He stood up, pulling the chair up. “I'll be back later.” The door shut behind him, but Maka was sure she heard him roll down the hallway and smash into a wall a few seconds later.

She shuffled uneasily in her seat. “Anything wrong, Maka?” Soul had stopped reading and now had turned his attention to his Meister.

“Its... nothing.” She turned her head back to the books in front of her to avoid the gaze of her weapon. It was just a feeling...nothing for Soul to be concerned about.

“You're lying to me again.”

Dammit, why did Soul have to be so smart?!

“Really its nothing.” She put on her best fake smile as she lifted up her head.

“Maka... during the battle with the Kishin... do you remember much?”

“Not really. I wasn't awake for most of it.” That much was true.

“I think we should... talk about it... later.” Soul tried his hardest to remain cool. Situations like this were not his forte.

“Yeah, later though. We have work to catch up on.”

Soul turned back to his work. Damn. This is not cool at all Soul.

Stein tried his best not to look too disappointed. “What do you need Lord Death?” He looked up, the shine in his glasses reflecting on just his right eye.

“Well I was thinking that Shibusen needs some... changes.”

Sid spoke up. “Changes, Lord Death?”

“Yuh. Changes.”

“What kind of changes?” Spirit had his hands in his pockets.

“The type of classes we're providing. I'd like more about fighting abilities.”

“But why Lord Death?” Sid was exasperated more than anything.

“After the episode with the Kishin we can't know for sure what evil is out there. We need to be able to fight against it”

“That is correct, Lord Death. But why tell us this now?” Stein was still heart broken about being interrupted during the dissection.

“Because I want new classes to begin this morning.”

“But we won't have much time to prepare new lessons.” Sid took a step forward. “I'm always prepared, that's the kind of man I was, but its inconvenient.”

“Are you saying you can't do it, Sid?” Lord Death growled.

Sid hesitated. This was unlike Lord Death... “No, of course not. I shall begin straight away.”

Stein sighed. “If you insist. I can have the students outside preparing in a few minutes.”

“Very good. Spirit, go make yourself useful and help them however you can. That's all for now..” Lord Death turned his back to them.

Stein was confused, as were the other teachers and Spirit. He hesitated, then began making his way out of the Death Room.

The other teachers followed suit.
