They chose the person most suited for the job. They can't choose just anybody since the very fate of the world will rest on whoever is chosen. Then, they were overjoyed to find the right soul for the job. The right personality. It had the qualities needed to lead the swords.
At first, the chosen sage was confused. It was the normal reaction if you suddenly wake up when you're supposedly dead and what's more, woke up only to find out that almost 200 years passed since they died.
The Sage accepted all the information and explanation like a sponge does to water.
It made them overjoyed again, to find out they really have chosen the right human.
"S-So, a war concerning timeline is breaking out, and I need to lead former swords reanimated as people to fight these things called the time retrograde army to protect history."
They nodded with joyous expressions.
This girl understands the situation quickly.
She did panic a bit but she started to calm down when they explained everything.
They were beings close to the gods, kind of like their messengers, and was tasked to find a human to lead the world to victory.
In order to protect the history and it's future.
They wasted no time and dressed the girl in clothes, showing her where she would be operating her troops.
Of course, all things has it's own beginnings. The girl was only starting and didn't have any reanimated swords right now.
The time retrograde army's attack will start next month, and she needed to make those swords right now.
They presented the girl with five swords that were prepared in advance as soon as her arrival.
The girl didn't reply when they made her choose one.
_______________
They said that my body and soul was preserved just for this day. That my death was destined so that I could be here right now.
I was just a poor girl back then, struggling every day just to live the next and now I owned this huge citadel.
I had been given a purpose.
A sage. It made me smile a bit.
They needed me. I, who was thrown away, is needed by someone.
They finished showing me around the citadel and we went inside this room that had five swords in display.
"Now, choose one sword, Saniwa-sama." They said and I stared at the weapons in front of me.
One? Only one?
If I choose one, then what will happen to the other four? Thrown away? Abandoned? Just like how I formerly was.
"That's just sad..." they seem to be confused of what I said.
I faced them.
"W-Why just one? C-Can't I reanimate all of them? Abandoning the others is cruel.." I said and they appear to be surprised for a moment.
"No, we're not saying your abandoning them. Its just that..."
Another continued since the other hesitated to say whatever the reason was.
"Reanimating swords cost energy. Your energy. We can't have you fainting at the first day of your job."
I clenched my fists. So what if I suffer? Leaving them alone like that is sad. I don't want to do the same thing my relatives did to me.
"Then I won't. If I manage to do it then I'll take all five of them." I could see from their gestured that they were taken aback.
I could only be a teen, but I studied every possible thing that could help me, and that included reading people.
I took out five pieces of the paper they have given me and placed one on each of the sword.
Performing the spell just like they instructed. I could feel something in me being sucked out.
Energy. My strength was being taken.
But this was nothing. It didn't compare to the fatigue I felt from working day and night. It was nothing from what I experienced.
In that blinding light, silhouettes formed and as it dimmed, five swords stood there with their new body.
It was successful.
I was so overjoyed and couldn't help but greet my new companions with a hug.
