It was a Monday morning. That was just lovely.
I had work today, even though I didn't want to go. It was about 7:30 am. I had to be at work by 9. I had to hop to it.
Before anything, though, I had to check my phone. I turned it on and I had a text on there that looked scary. It read: Its not real. None of it. Trust no one. ESCAPE
I got really confused, but I let it go. I got changed into my work uniform and brushed my hair. I got my makeup bag and started for the bathroom. As soon as I opened the door, I was greeted with the strangest thing.
My mom, my nine-year-old brother, and my uncle were all standing there, staring at me with straight faces. My mom narrowed her eyes at me.
"You didn't see anything strange this morning, did you?" My mom asks.
I look at her with the poker face I use every day at work. "Noooooo...why...?"
The three mumbled to each other, saying things like "she still doesn't know", "does she trust us", "should we believe her". Finally, my brother sticks out his hand, rather roboticly.
"May we see your phone?"
I looked at him strangely because he never uses grammar like that, then I pulled it out and swiped the screen to get the text message off. Then I started thinking this isn't the least bit normal. Instead I said, "no, I'm gonna keep it to myself, thanks."
"Sweetie, give your brother your phone please," my uncle said.
"What if I don't want to?"
"You have to. Or He will not be pleased," they all chanted together.
As soon as they said that, I knew that I had to get out. Whoever this "He" was, I didn't really feel like finding out. I darted back into my room as everyone lunged at me. I shut the door and blocked it with my dresser. I then dropped all my stuff and jumped out of my open window. At that particular moment in time, I was very glad that my room was on the first story of the house.
I ran across my yard and burst through the gate to the driveway. I got my keys out of my pocket and fumbled with them while trying to unlock my truck. when I was finally able to get in, I saw the front door open. My mom and uncle ran out and ran toward my truck. I jammed my key into the ignition and frantically turned it to reverse. I gassed it, leading me to almost run over my neighbor's trash can.
I then turned it to drive and went as fast as I could down the street. I looked back in my rear view mirror and saw my uncle and mom, now very small figures running in the middle of the street.
Instead of turning left to go to work, I turned right to get on the freeway. Once I was on the freeway, I called in sick to work and said I didn't know when I would be back. I drove silently for a while, then I decided to see who sent me that text. I got my phone and search up the number. What came up surprised me. The only thing that came up was an address in Olympia, Washington.
I set my navigation system to that address and kept driving.
