     In an attempt to regain some of his dignity, the boy pulled his jacket closer around him and straightened his back.  He could hear the laughter of the adults around him.
     "That's not what I meant..." he muttered.  It could be frustrating sometimes, being so young.  Sure, he wasn't that smart, even for a first grader, but that didn't mean that he didn't understand.  Even if he said something identical to what an adult said, they would still laugh.
     He decided to leave, but couldn't even do that without Mom sending his brother out with him.  He was never free.
