JUNGKOOK POV
today was the day that i had been dreading for weeks. i was a little excited, sure, but im just terrified for what could happen. i have no idea what this simulation is capable of and i won't figure out until i walk into those doors with zero confidence and another person who is probably just happy to be there.
it was a month ago that someone reached out to my mom to ask if i wanted to be a test subject for some new high-tech simulation. they were only allowed two people from busan and only asked the "best" by whatever criteria they went by. i blindly said yes, thinking it would be cool to try something no ones else had. oh yeah... the best part, we don't have a clue how long i'll be in that simulation for, and it won't take long before one of the seven of us snaps.
---
we finally reached the building that this simulation took place at 2:15, fifteen minutes early. is this a good or a bad thing? was i supposed to be early? what if it was 3:30? or 1:30? am i overthinking this? okay calm down... oh great, the other person is already here.
"jungkook, correct?" a man had immediately approached us as we walked through the door. he was very tall, with chocolate brown hair and little round glasses. he wore a classic white lab coat with some casual jeans which seemed... odd.
"uh y-yeah," i stuttered as i shook his hand. i glanced over at the boy who sat down in the lobby, probably waiting for me to get here. he had wavy blonde hair and looked relatively short. i assumed he was older than me because the youngest you could be was sixteen, but couldn't be much older.
"well i guess we can start preparing now because both of our testers are here." he looked over at the blonde, signaling for him to come over by us. "now if you would follow me please." the man in charge began to walk down the long white corridor in front of us, and we both followed as ordered.
"oh um, okay. b-bye mom." and now my mom was gone. now it's just me, a sixteen year old boy with two strangers going to do god knows what. we continued to walk down the extremely long hallway, which had only taken one right turn so far. finally, we reached a small room with a desk and three chairs, one on one side and two on the other.
the other boy sat down first, and i quickly followed after. the room was completely white, along with the chairs and desks. it was brightly lit by a one small light that was in the ceiling, and if the room were to be any bigger it would be significantly darker.
"so," the man started, "you two are some of the best kids in your age range in Busan, you know that right?" the best kids? what does that even mean? i looked at the blonde to see what his response was, but i turns out he was looking at me for an answer.
"uh, y-yeah i guess," he said, clearly confused and nervous. hey, at least we're in the same boat.
"well, this simulation is revolutionary and you are both very lucky to be some of the first testers. the actual room is a hall down, but this is a safe place for explanations and such." i honestly really didn't trust this guy, just by his obvious act. but, i decided to ignore it, i was probably just paranoid.
"first of all, let's go through the basics, since almost no information was given to the families and you." you got that right. "in this simulation you will be put in an array of places. some futuristic, some in the middle of nowhere, and some plain-out confusing. it will be just like real life, but you can do anything. you will be given small objectives and quests to test out the game, that part is mainly for us. oh, and i know you already knew this but there are five other testers that you will be able to see and interact with."
"h-how long are we in the simulation for?" the other tester asked, again, obviously nervous.
"i was just about to get to that and... something else. you will be in this simulation for thirty days." thirty days, two words that i had no idea would be imprinted into my head forever. "and as for the other thing, there are some possible side effects from past simulation." he then slid two thin pieces of paper onto the table, one for each of us. i took one and read it over.
amnesia after testing
severe depression after testing
having your good and evil conscience talk to you while testing
"what does it mean by having your good and evil conscience talk to you?" i then asked, surprising myself by actually speaking up.
"past testers have said that they have heard two very clear voices in their head while testing, we have then deemed that as a good and bad side of their conscience." the man spoke fast but clearly, but it was still hard for me to comprehend what was being said. "well then i think that's it, i'll lead you to the simulation room. follow me." and we followed.
after a few more extremely long corridors we made it to the testing room. this one was much bigger than the past room, and it had two separate pod-like... things.
"you may each step into one of the pods." the man then slightly pushed us into the room, and we each took a pod. it was completely white, much like the rest of the building, except for one small controller that sat on a thin pedestal and a hole in the wall that had some kind of scanner in it. next to the controller was a small headset, that could only fit over the top half of someone's face.
i examined the controller while i waited for instructions. it was similar to the shape of an x-box controller, only thinner and with a different design and format of where the buttons would be. on the left side was a small, pale blue button that had a very clear O on it, while on the right sat a large, red button that had an R.
"in a few seconds you will be scanned very quickly. you may then put on the headset and press the R button to start." his tone was now sharper and louder than before, but now he spoke even faster.
suddenly, a bright red light that was paired with a loud noice went off but was over in the blink of an eye.
guess i won't have any famous last words.
i clicked the R button.
