"Wake up, Scarlett! It's your first day of school, you can't be late," my older sister, Ashley, proclaimed noisily, while attempting to pull me out of bed. "No, no, no, not today, Ash. I couldn't sleep," I groaned. "Why are you so difficult? Please, just get out of bed and get dressed," she begged, "I know it's a new school and you're tired and blah blah blah, but you have to go to school, okay?"
Slowly, I sat up, opened my eyes, and scanned the room. Ashley smiled. "Yay! Now go get dressed. I'll make you breakfast if you want," she announced, leaving the room. I dug through my messy suitcase that I still hadn't unpacked and found a clean pair of jeans and a grey t-shirt. "Well, this will have to do for now," I whispered to myself.
I glanced in the mirror and saw my light brown hair and green eyes. I looked away, anxiously. Never had I truly liked the sight of my own reflection. I wasn't the most self confident person. I slipped on a pair of sneakers and strolled down the stairs to the kitchen where I saw a plate of eggs, burnt bacon, and a pathetic little pancake. Ashley was wearing a nice shirt with a blazer over it and jeans with black heels. She looked at me with a smile on her face.
"Oh, yeah, you made breakfast," I spoke, breaking the semi-awkward silence. I sat down and stared at the food again. Ashley frowned. "You don't have to eat it if you don't want to," she said gloomily. "No, no! Ash, I want to. It looks great," I announced to my sister. So, to make Ashley happy, I ate the burnt food. It wasn't actually as bad as it looked.

Ashley and I anxiously piled into her new, shiny, grey car. I hate cars, I thought. After about seven minutes, she dropped me off at school. My new school was a huge, brick building with the words Thornburg High School on a sign above the glass doors. Green, tall trees scattered the grassy field that was the front yard of the building. "Hannah!" A black haired girl who looked about my age screeched as she saw one of her friends.
She jumped at her friend and threw her arms around her clumsily. "Calm down, Madison, it's only been a week since we last saw each other," her friend, Hannah, said, peeling Madison's hands off of her. A tall brunette with a scowl on her face passed by them and rolled her eyes, laughing. "Alexis, really? What's so funny?" Hannah asked. "Oh, nothing, just you and your pathetic friend," Alexis answered meanly.
Then, that's when they both saw me. Alexis turned her head first, and smirked when she laid her clear, crystal blue eyes on me. They both jumped for me at the same time, each of them grabbing one of my arms. "Hi, you must be new here," Alexis said to me happily, "do you want me to show you around?" Hannah said, "Or, I could show you around. I know this school like the back of my hand." She laughed.
"Um, I'm- um, I-I," I stumbled over my words, one by one. "I almost forgot, what's your name?" Alexis asked. "Scarlett," I announced, trying not to sound like a total idiot. "Ooh, that is such a pretty name!" Alexis said with such a smile on her face, I almost though she was being sarcastic. "It is," Hannah agreed.
"So, which one of us do you want to be your 'tour guide'?" She asked me. "Hannah! Don't make her choose which one of us she wants to go with. That's so mean! She obviously was going to come with me anyway," Alexis proclaimed with a serious look on her face. Hannah scoffed at her. I looked at each of them.
Alexis, with her perfect, pearly white smile and her dark hair blowing in the wind behind her, and Hannah with her cheerful smile and pleading eyes. Then, Alexis broke Hannah's hand from its grip on my arm and whisked me away quickly, before Hannah or Madison could catch her and smirked at me. "This is gonna be a great day," she told me, smirking.
