Wren was born Natalie Linden, into a fairly wealthy family in Portland, Oregon. She was raised well, and was well cared for by her parents. However, at age ten, she discovered a certain term on the internet: nonbinary.
After further researching this, she saw more and more connections toward herself. She felt uncomfortable whenever she was referred to as a girl, but she didn't fit as a boy, either! So the next morning she asked her parents use the pronouns they/them for her. And god, did she enjoy it. It just....fit.
On their fourteenth birthday, Natalie was taken in to get her name legally changed. She chose Wren, because it just felt right to her. And all her friends loved it, too. But it was as they were on their way home that something horrible happened.
Her father, who was gushing about how his child was growing into a life they wanted and desired, had taken his eyes off the road for a single second. This second caused the car to lurch and drive directly into a chemical plant. The building exploded upon impact, killing Wren's parents instantly and leaving them the only survivor.
But Wren felt different. It was as if there was a weird tingling in their bones. But it wasn't until they looked in the rearview mirror that they were shocked: they couldn't see themself! They were invisible.
And from then on, they knew what they had to become: a superhero. And so they did.
And now Fade roams the streets, fighting crime and saving citizens.
