As much as I wanted the Aries and Cancer to be the most PERFECT pair in the universe, made for one another. What is a good and true relationship without a bit effort/work? In their case they need a lot of it.
Aries and cancer are viewed as the Yin and Yang, fire and water, moon and sun of the zodiac signs, complete opposites.
This relationship can be painful for both partners and needs a lot of work put into it in order to work. It requires both of the partners to adapt and make changes in their behavior, while tip toing around each other most of the time. It is not an easy road, but the rewards are such inner understanding of passion, full of emotion and the ability to create something truly unique. If they succeed, they will probably never be satisfied with a different partner.
-They balance each other out because they view things differently and sometimes get the other to see it the way they do, teach them to act, take on the qualities the other holds
- They are both cardinal(leadership driven) signs but because of this they will almost always have to make compromise
- It could be a relationship of endless caretaking or tireless demands

Based on what I've read on the signs they're considered opposites because of the fact that, yes, one is water(cancer) cool and calm. The other is fiery and driven, a bit independent.
That doesn't mean they wouldn't have a good relationship because while Aries just needs some space and cancer wants to be close by, they both really just want emotional/relationship security and they want to be loved. They can have a great/deep relationship together if they're both understanding and open, if they have patience and are willing to work for a love that can last ages.
