(Y/n) was lost. Utterly, hopelessly, downright lost. They should've known this was a bad idea the instant they heard the word "maze". Completely alone in the dark, they were beginning to grow paranoid, jumping at the slightest noise and running around in panicked circles.
This was supposed to be a fun day out, and it had ended in disaster. Their feet were aching, they were covered in scratches and dirt and they just wanted to leave this damned maze, but it just seemed to have no end. They tried jumping up to see an exit, but to no avail. The corn was too tall.
Flopping down on be ground, they huffed in defeat and began to tear up. It was scary in the maze after dark. They kept hearing scuttling around them, and before they knew it their brain was spiralling into an intense scenario in which the scuttling wasn't just an animal or the wind. It was a masked murderer wielding an axe, a grotesque monster stalking them from the shadows, a pervert waiting for them to fall asleep and kidnap them.
They jumped up and looked around frantically, convinced they were about to die some awful, gruesome death. At this point, tears had spilled down their cheeks, and they let out a tiny sob of frustration and fear.
It was then that they heard it. The footsteps. Tiny and almost inaudible, but definitely there. They froze on the spot, not daring to move.
Another shuffle of the corn.
Another step closer.
Then they heard the breathing.
Quiet, even breaths. A shadow appeared before them.
"Oh, I-" they shrieked as the shadow made a noise and turned on their heel at an alarming speed and shot off into the corn, only to run straight into something solid and topple the both of them right over.
Both them and the object were now screaming as they lay in the corn on top of each other, and then abruptly stopped as they realised they were both just...
...people...
Under (y/n) was a white haired, freckled man who looked just as startled as them. Realising their (terrible) mistake, they scuttled back off him and blushed bright red. He sat up and began to rub his head, muttering to himself quietly.
"Sorry, did I startle you?" He asked, sitting in the dirt in front of them. In return, they let out a nervous giggle of relief and embarrassment.
"Maybe a little..." they replied. "I've been lost for a while, and I guess it's a little scary here."
He nodded and smiled sheepishly in understanding.
"Same story here actually..." he said. There was an awkward moment of silence before he stuck out his hand to them. "Oh, I'm Ja'far by the way. You are?"
They shook his hand gently, still dying of embarrassment. "I'm (y/n). Nice to meet you." He looked up at the sky. It was dotted with stars, and the moon shone out from behind a cloud. They made eye contact with him, triggering another blush of embarrassment. He smiled.
"Looks like we're stuck together until morning then, there's no way we'll get out of here in the dark" he laughed.
"Curse Sinbad and his stupid ideas." He muttered darkly, a serious look suddenly sweeping across his face. They began to laugh at him.
"I guess you're right. How about you tell me how you got stuck here? Sounds like that Sinbad had something to do with it." They giggled. Ja'far began to laugh too.
The rest of the night was spent exchanging stories and laughing, and come morning they were found resting on each other, fast asleep, when a certain eggplant haired man came looking for him.
He never let Ja'far live it down. Ever.
