Phelan stared blankly at the ceiling on her room. She put her arms behind her head, close her eyes and opened again. It was an architecturally sublime ceiling that is full of glow in the dark stars as if you were in the universe. She lazily glanced at the clock on the bedside table, it is exactly 5:02 AM but she did not want to get up. A sudden knock on the door of her room made her left the bed.
"Breakfast's ready! Get up sleepy head or else-"
She rolled her eyes as he heard that annoying line of her identical twin brother, Phoenix. As usual, a morning person who wouldn't want to be late.
"I'm already up! Get lost!" she annoyingly exclaimed and she just hears a loud laugh from her brother.
She sighed and walk near her window covered by a black curtain. She opened it and in less than seconds the rays of the sun filled the darkness of her room. She unlocked the glass door and stepped outside the balcony. Both her hands are clinging on the railings. Below, a black Mazda MX-5 parked in front of their antique iron gate that looks old but the hinges were undoubtedly new.
Kennedy got off the car and saw her best friend Phelan looking down at her with a creased forehead. She also creased her forehead and shouted;
"You haven't showered yet?!"
Phelan suddenly laughed and lifted her right hand with the index and middle finger raised.
"I don't take peace sign as an answer. Come on! We're gonna be late!" Kennedy shouted and walked quickly into the house.
Phelan quickly runs off to her bathroom, locked its door and take a quick shower. She doesn't want to start her day in a battle of tug of war with her best friend.
After she showered and picked a decent dress paired with black flats, Phelan heard laughter as she walks in their dining room. She again creased her forehead.
"Oh! I thought we're gonna be late?" She asked and all the eyes in the dining room looked at her.
"Good morning baby!" Mrs. Vasquez hugged and kissed her forehead.
"Mom! I'm not a baby anymore. I'm 21 already just like Phoenix." She annoyingly said and point out her index finger to Phoenix who's enjoying the annoyed look on her face.
"Yeah, but you are still our baby. And you too, Phoenix." Mr. Vazquez said smiling.
"Can I call them baby too, Tito?" Kennedy joked.
"Of course, Kenny"
"Hell no!"
Mr. Vasquez and the twins both said. Kennedy laughed and the others didn't hold it.
"By the way, where's Alec?" Mrs. Vasquez asked and Phelan suddenly stops laughing.
"I almost forgot to tell you! We have a game this morning Mom." Phoenix answered.
"Yeah! Come on, Phelan. Alec is waiting for us." Kennedy said and bid Mr. and Mrs. Vasquez goodbye.
"Take care, sweethearts. Win the game, Phoenix. And send my regards to Alec." Mr. Vasquez said.
Phelan remained silent until they reached their school gymnasium. Kennedy noticed it and asked Phelan if there is something wrong but Phelan just shrugs at her. Kennedy ignored it and they continue to walk to the entrance of gymnasium. Phoenix didn't notice his twin's silence and walk to the left side part of the court where his coach is waving annoyingly at him.
"He's eight minutes late, Kenny." Phelan sighed while gazing at her brother and Kennedy suddenly averted her gaze at Phoenix.
"He will be fine," Kennedy assured
