A winter's walk

As pure white snow descended heavily throughout Newgate Junior high's front yard, silver crystalline flecks dancing and swaying back and forth on the gentlest of breeze, Sherwin and Jonathan walked out of the building and on to the snow-laden path. Several others watched the two boys holding hands as they walked out of the school grounds and out towards the slush-covered sidewalk.

Sherwin was visibly uneasy with
the several sets of eyes staring
at him and Jonathan, and bit the inside of his cheek to control his fear.
Jonathan could see how uncomfortable Sherwin was, and gave his hand a comforting squeeze as they exit the grounds, and glanced toward him and made the smallest of smiles, just to reassure him. With snow crunching beneath their feet, they went out of the gate and towards the sidewalk.

Sherwin and Jonathan walked down the sidewalk, Jonathan leading him to somewhere unknown, but Sherwin trusted Jonathan and continued with him. Sherwin found himself oggling at Jonathan. Those wind burned and flushed cheeks, that wind-whipped hair, and he felt Shirley who was quite content until just now, launched up into his throat, but failed to escape thanks to the several layers of clothing Sherwin had donned. And Sherwin sighed a quiet sigh of relief. He returned to staring at Jonathan as he followed him down the path.

Sherwin allowed himself to get lost in Jonathan's eyes. He gazed wistfully into the stormy oceans contained in those glass globules. Those long eyelashes supporting the smallest droplets of water from the melted snow. He stared in awe and pure adoration until he realized they were staring back.

Blushing furiously, he looked at his shoes, terrified of what may come. Until he was pulled into a large blue jacket that smelled like mahogany teakwood and books. He felt hands grip his waist as the warmth of Jonathan's chest made itself known, and noticed a faint glow from within Jonathan's layers.

Jonathan rested his chin on Sherwin's head, the unruly and poufy hair tickling his face as he breathed in the tempting scent of Christmas cookies and cinnamon.

(Sherwin's mother loved making cookies this time of year, and sherwin
loved to help.)

The enticing smells lulled Jonathan as he held a very happy Sherwin under the pine they happened to be standing beneath. It's fragrant needles chilling the air and adding a tangy aroma to the area around them. Jonathan stared at Sherwin's contented face as Sherwin wound his hands around Jonathan's chest. He stared at those closed eyes. His cute little nose, those tiny adorable freckles seemed to dance about it, oh he was adorable.

After a long moment of staring and hugging, Jonathan breathed in heavily and exhaled. Watching the fog rise from his mouth and vanish like dewdrops on a summers day. He nuzzled Sherwin gently out of his whooly coat, leaving one flap over Sherwin as they continued walking.

Jonathan still seemed to have a particular place he wanted to go, but sherwin had no clue what it was, as he looked at the blue and white awnings over tiny shops until suddenly they made a turn into a small cafe.

The aroma of cocoa and cinnamon rolls tempted sherwin as Jonathan led him to the counter. He laid a five dollar bill on the counter and the barista gave him two cups.

The dark haired, and rather plump lady looked at the two, and then at their intertwined hands, and smiled.

Sherwin blushed, turning a most delightful shade of pink. She gestured to the small table full of different coffees, teas,
and cocoas. Jonathan walked toward the small table, and poured himself some cocoa.

He quirked his head slightly, beckoning Sherwin to him. Sherwin quickly poured his cocoa, and added some marshmallows, and he and Jonathan left the store as quickly as they came.

With Jonathan's coat flap and arm over Sherwin's shoulder, and the other closed around his hot cocoa, sipping occasionally,
As he stared at Sherwin.

Part two.

As Jonathan and Sherwin made there way down the street and towards several large houses, they stood before a large red Lincoln log house, and Sherwin realized this was Jonathan's house. Sherwin didn't worry. His mother already knew he would be home late, and Jonathan's parents were on a three day trip to the Bahamas, knowing full well how responsible Jonathan was.
Jonathan opened the dark and ornately carved door to reveal a lovely home. To the left was a grand spiral staircase leading to upstairs, and to the right was the kitchen with all manner of cooking knickknacks, and behind that was a large red rug in front of a roaring fire, and several cushy pillows.

Jonathan took a step inside and offered a little bow and held Sherwin's hand and ushered him in.

Jonathan hung his coat up and Sherwin hung up his, and Jonathan sat down by the fire, cocoa in hand, and pat the area next to him, beckoning Sherwin to sit by him. As Sherwin sat down on the incredibly cushy and soft pillows, he stared into the fire and sipped his cocoa with Jonathan. They didn't feel the need to do anything, they just enjoyed each other's company.

At least a half an hour passed, and they still sat, staring at the scarlet flames, lapping greedily at the charred oak wood. Now crunching under the pressure, cleaving into smaller parts and sending minuscule flecks of orange fire out through the chimney.
By now Sherwin's head was on Jonathan's shoulder, and Jonathan's arm on Sherwin's. Both were tired by the tempting cradle of warmth the fire brought, and Jonathan eventually leaned backwards and on his side, holding a nearly-asleep Sherwin in front of him. And wrapped his arms around Sherwin's warm chest, and before he set Sherwin's head down, he set another pillow under Sherwin's head, and sighed a sigh. Jonathan leaned in and gently kissed Sherwin on the nose. And lay back down. And they slept quietly.
