The sky began stitching itself back together, but something was in its way.
"Who do you have to meet?" A deep voice said from the doorway. Every head turned.
"Jackson!" Mom exclaimed, quickly pulling Stephen off the sofa to help her shield me from view.
"Crap," Drake said under his breath.
"What?" Jackson asked.
"I said, 'crap, Jackson's here,'" Drake lied.
"Look," Jackson said, taking a few steps forward.
"No!" Mom said.
"What?"
"Nothing," Mom quickly said to Jackson. "Rose," she whispered while Jackson looked away. "Through the kitchen."
I quickly backed away, quietly walking through the kitchen so I was now behind Jackson. The plan worked great, until I looked up at the doorknob.
Oh crap! I thought. I looked to Drake, whose eyes widened as he realized I couldn't reach the handle.
"Anyway," Jackson said, finishing his speech. "I just wanted to say I'm sorry for getting all pissy-patty earlier. Realllllyyy, I shouldn't h-have beeen a Patrick."
Pissy-Patty? Patrick? I wondered. What is going on in his head?
"Oh," Drake said, "T-that's fine." He looked to Mom for help, for she and Stephen had also seen my predicament.
"I should get going," Jackson said.
Stephen finally thought of something. "How 'bout a drink, son?"
"Uh, I already had one, maybe next time! It's getting late and I sssshhhhould get home." He turned to leave.
Everyone shouted, "No!" As Jackson's eyes went wide, seeing me, well, my wolf.
He backup slowly. "Why the hell is there a fuckin wolf in the house?" Jackson quickly took out his phone.
"What are you doing?" Drake asked, his eyes never leaving mine.
"Calling the animal catchers," Jackson answered.
"Put the phone away," Mom said.
"Why?" Jackson asked her, stopping to look up at her.
"Just put it away," Stephen said.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't get the wolf out of the house," he said.
Drake looked at me. I quickly shook my head, realizing what he was about to do.
"I have to," he whispered, quiet brought that only my wolf hearing could pick up on it. "I can't let anything happen to you. It's my job."
"A reason?" Jackson repeated. "I'm calling, in three, two, o-"
"It's Rose," Drake shouted.
Jackson looked towards Drake. "Excuse me?"
I whimpered, and began pushing the door, hoping it'll open.
Drake looked towards me. "I'm sorry."
I shook my head and kept on pushing the door.
"Rose," Drake said. "Rose, please. Rose, you have to."
No, I thought. Jackson won't call. He knows I love wolves. He won't hurt one.
"Rose, please," Drake said again. "He'll call them. He's not the guy you knew all those years ago."
