Boo Seungkwan sat in his one bedroom apartment at 11:59pm. His fluffy blanket was pulled up to his chest as 4 sirens ran through his ears.
"This is not a test, this is your Emergency Broadcast System. Announcing the commencement of the annual purge sanctioned by the Korean Republic. Weapons of class four and lower have been authorized for use during the purge. All other weapons are restricted. Government officials of ranking 10 have been granted immunity and shall not be harmed. Commencing at the siren, any and all crime (including murder) will be legal for 12 continuous hours. Police, fire, and Emergency Medical services will be unavailable until tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. When the purge concludes. Blessed be our new founding fathers and South Korea... A nation reborn. May God be with you all."
The sirens that signifies the beginning of the purge rung out through the city. Sighing, he walked up to his house's security panel and locked down all his doors, windows and vents.
Seungkwan had lived through 4 purges previously although he was only 22. The purge only begun 8 years ago but Seungkwan moved back to Korea after spending 5 years in America to learn English.
Unfortunately, Seungkwan's not a Government offical or had any knowledge of weapons of any sort. Usually Seungkwan's family would spend the purge period together. However; this year his mother was in Japan for a business trip and his sister had previously called him informing him that she was staying at a friend's house for the weekend. Seungkwan was alone.

One hour had past and Seungkwan still sat in his apartment in front of the TV. In the past hour Seungkwan had heard a total of 4 screams from the street his apartment was situated on.
The power had cut out about 20 minutes ago and now he was sat with a yankee candle glowing in front of him.
Moving to a different position, Seungkwan lied down on the couch and pulled his fluffy blanket over him and blew out the candle, getting ready to sleep through out the next 24 hours.

Seungkwan woke abruptly at 2:17 to a banging noise at his door. Seungkwan froze. His family had always told him to never open the door for anyone during the purge, even if he knew who it was.
Usually Seungkwan would abide by his mother's words without any hesitation but the screams of terror at his door made him feel slightly sympathetic.
He slowly walked towards the door, his fluffy blanket still wrapped around his shoulders, and placed his ear towards the door.
"Please, please. My father locked me out. Please help me there's people outside."
A tear rolled down Seungkwan's face. He had never been so torn in his life. He walked over to the security cameras so he could see who was at the door.
There stood a teenage boy, head against the door, crying whilst weakly banging on the door, as if he was giving up on hope.
Seungkwan was shaking. His hand trembled as he reached for the unlock button for the apartment's front door, where the boy stood still in hysterics.
He pressed the button, allowing the metal door to unlock so the boy could come in.
He could hear footsteps running inside. Seungkwan quickly closed the security door once again right before his legs gave out and he fell to the floor, covering his mouth in shock at what he had just done.
He let a stranger in his house.
