Weaving in and out sweaty bodies was not the best feeling, but thankfully it wasn't long until I found Harper and Jordan grooving to the upbeat music, smack right in the middle of the crowd.

"SIERRA!!" Harper's face lit up as she extended her arms, wrapping me in a brief warm hug.

"I'm SO GLAD you came!" Jordan yelled over the top of the music.

Harper's long wavy hair bounced as she grooved to the pop tune remix blasting through the speakers. She was in a forest green shift dress and as always, looked effortlessly stylish. Jordan was in a mint green tank top with cut-off shorts which showed off her long, toned legs. Her straight hair pulled up in a ponytail, she looked athletic as usual.

Just as we exchanged our greetings, the DJ transitioned into a slower ballad, as several people started to vacate the dance floor in the direction of the bar.

"I'm off to the bar, you girls want drinks?" Harper suggested.

"Oh sure, yes please! Sierra?" Jordan looked at me. I shook my head, "no thank you, maybe a little later. We'll walk with you though!" We weaved through the crowd once again, hands linked so we didn't get lost in the mob.

Jordan and I stood by a table as Harper lined up for the bar. I looked back at Jordan, noticing a funny expression on her face.

"What's wrong?" I inquired, confused.

"Girl, I love your outfit... but why are you wearing mustard yellow?" She asked, eyebrows scrunched up.

"Umm... It's new and I just really wanted to wear it?" I offered, confused.

"Oh, it's just that we thought you were going to be decked out in red." Her eyes widened, "did something happen between you and Pete?"

"What? No- why would you think that?" I asked, eyebrows raised. "I mean, we haven't spoken in two days, he said he was out of town with his family... But nothing bad's happened between us," I quickly added.

"Well, seeing this is a traffic light themed party-"

Looking around once more, I now noticed that every partygoer was wearing one of three colours. Variations of red, yellow and green. Realisation dawned on me - it was a traffic light themed party! How did I miss the memo? Wearing green meant you were single and ready to mingle, and the majority of the people at this party were sporting a shade of green. Most of the people dressed in red were off to the side, with a handful of red-clothed couples on the dance floor swaying to the slow ballad. Jordan's concern made sense - wearing yellow implied an ambiguous relationship status - that either things were complicated or the person was not fully available.

"Oh, no no- I just forgot that this was a traffic light party, oops!" I chuckled, slightly embarrassed. "It'll be okay, we're totally fine and Pete's not even here so-"

"Wait, Pete isn't here?" Harper returned, a drink in each hand.

"He said he'd be out of town," I started as Harper handed Jordan a cup.

Harper's expression clouded over, "you should come with me, there's something I need to show you."
