Nathaniel grasped the handle of the door of his floor and pulled it open. “Out of my way asshole,” grunted Aaron as he pushed past Nathaniel into the hallway. Nathaniel bit his lip in anger and went into the hallway. “Echo, why are you being nice to Aaron? He’s a jerk,” stated Mikey as Jordan passed him into the hallway. “Why wouldn’t I be nice to him,” replied Echo remaining in the stairwell with Mikey. “He’s being mean to all of us, and he wanted to leave you behind. Why do you want to help him?” asked Mikey. “Because it is the right thing to do. You shouldn’t treat people bad just because they treat you bad. Like it says in the Bible, ‘and love your neighbor as yourself’ Mark 12:31,” stated Echo as he passed Mikey into the hallway. “Echo you know I don’t believe in that stuff, and I know Aaron doesn’t” replied Mikey following Echo. “It is just stated in the Bible, but that doesn’t mean it only applies to those who are christian. The Bible teaches…” began Echo, but was cut off by a loud shriek reverberating down the hall.
“What the hell was that?” asked Jordan holding a metal broom handle in a defensive position. “Everyone be quiet and follow me,” whispered Nathaniel crouching low to the ground. The group snuck down the hall past many of the dorms till they arrived in the commons area in the middle of the dormitory. “Where did that scream come from?” asked Jordan when the group stopped. “Hopefully whoever it is is okay,” whispered Echo. “Do you really think that? That sounded like a girl, and she’s probably being ripped apart as we speak,” chuckled Aaron darkly. “You don’t know that,” stated Echo moving towards Mikey. “Keep being in denial and you’ll be dead just like her,” grunted Aaron as he smirked at Mikey. Mikey looked at the floor and closed his eyes. “Would you knock it off,” grumbled Nathaniel looking back at Aaron. “What are you gonna do? Punch me in the face again? I already can’t see out out the eye you busted up earlier,” bellowed Aaron standing up. “Aaron get down and be quiet,” whispered Jordan looking around to see if anyone or anything heard him. Before Aaron could respond a girl in her mid twenties came running out from the stairwell on the opposite end that the group had come from.
“Help me! Help! Help! He’s gon…” screamed the girl, but was stopped by a bullet blasting through her head. She crumbled to the ground in a heap of blood revealing a masked assailant standing in front of the stairwell door holding a smoking gun. The man saw Aaron standing there and fired another shot at him. Mikey pulled Aaron to the floor causing the bullet to blaze through his arm rather than his chest. Aaron screamed in pain a clutched his arm. The man pulled the clip from his pistol and began quickly shoving bullets into it. “Run!” shouted Nathaniel as the group scurried to their feet and ran for the stairwell they’d come from. They entered the stairwell and Nathaniel slammed the door shut. Bullets slammed into the door creating a loud echoing clang in the stairwell. “What are we gonna do?” whimpered Mikey with his hands covering his ears. “The four of you get down the steps,” growled Nathaniel grabbing the metal broom handle from Jordan. “What are you gonna do with that?” shouted Jordan as a bullet shattered through the little window in the door. “Just go I’ll call you when it’s clear,” commanded Nathaniel leaning against the wall the door was on. “Why should I listen to you?” grumbled Aaron clutching his arm as the other three proceeded down the stairs as instructed. “I’m trying to save your life, asshole!” yelled Nathaniel as bullets continued to clang against the door. “Oh boy everyone, our hero Nathaniel is gonna save us,” sarcastically rang Aaron still clutching his arm. “Do whatever you want then, but if you die it’s your own damn fault,” shouted Nathaniel looking at the door.
The bullets stopped for a moment and the door bursted open. When the masked assailant entered Nathaniel slammed the metal broom handle into his knees causing him to fall to the floor sending his pistol tumbling down the stairs. The man yelped in pain as Nathaniel raised the handle above his head. “please .. don’t,” began the shooter as the broom handle smashed into his head. The man went limp on the ground as Nathaniel raised the handle again and smashed it into his head again. Then again, and again, and again. Aaron watched terrified as Nathaniel continued mercilessly smashing the dead man’s head in. Blood spattered across Nathaniel and the surrounding area. With every swing the handle became more bent until it almost became a right angle. Nathaniel dropped the blood drenched handle on the floor and breathed heavily. “What the hell man,” stumbled Aaron in a state of shock. “It’s done,” grumbled Nathaniel looking at was once a face, but was now nothing more that a ski mask of guts and bone fragments.
