Jenny, that's my name. I once was a thirteen-year-old girl who lived a typical schoolgirl life. I went to school, came back home, went to school, came back. However, I was never happy in the school I attended. Not having someone by your side, always being alone, being picked on by students... It was pretty much impossible to be happy, right? I may have been one of the pretty girls in my school but that didn't change anything. In my school, it wasn't about looks like regular schools. Did you have money? Could you fight? Are you disrespectful? Are you a horrible person? If your answer to all of these were 'yes', your rank in school was high. Although I was ranked the lowest, I had a reason to smile... a reason that never replied.
Ever since a boy came into my life, I felt happy. I had hope that I could get through my school life with just one single person beside me. When I cried he was by my side, but when I smiled it was because he was by my side. We first met in a hallway. I weeped alone with no one to comfort me, no one except him. He was around sixteen years old, never looked at me and never smiled. His look was always cold but it always made my heart feel warm. While walking through the long hallway, I paused when I suddenly felt worried. I was too scared to turn around and too scared to run. To this day, the reason I felt that way is still a mystery. It may seem like a mystery to everyone else, but to me it was fate. The boy held up his arm while standing behind me, not allowing sunlight into my eyes. Since then, every time we met or I was hurt, he would do that.
Soon, I concluded my feelings- he was my first love. I asked him many questions during the short times we were together but he never replied. Even simple questions like 'what's your name?' or 'when's your birthday?' were left unanswered.
Then he left. Without a word he left our school, leaving me lonely once again. I promised myself that I would find him no matter how many years it'd take. Luckily, 'years' was never reached. There was a small shadowed place nearby which I found while strolling around the place, trying to find the boy I liked. I described his physical appearance to an old lady I saw but froze when she asked me for his name. During the silence, someone caught my attention when secretly walking behind me. I turned around out of curiosity and saw...my first love. I ran to stairs that led to his house which was dug under the ground and screamed "stop! Stop there! Wait! Stop!" He turned around and recognised me. Once he realised who I was, he ran. He ran away from me but still I refused to give up. I chased after him, he slammed his house door shut so I ran to his window and grabbed his left hand with both of my hands. I screamed and cried saying everything I had in my mind, how I felt towards him, how happy he made me. Every single bit of it spilt from my mouth.
For the first time ever... he smiled. He smiled and laughed! His smile was so beautiful, I stared with my mouth and eyes wide open. While still laughing he invited me to his house. Hoya. He revealed his name: Hoya. Just like that, we became friends... no, much more than friends.
After a few long but fun months, my family was going leave the country. I was preparing to board an airplane alone because my family had gone first. However, with me, coming to Taiwan was Hoya! Unfortunately he didn't have any family so he took all his savings for me just so we could be together. Before going to my seat I looked around for Hoya to see where he was sitting but I couldn't find him. I searched again and again but he didn't come. That was the last ever time I'd seen or heard of him.
