She lay on her bed, looking at the ceiling. Tomorrow was her first day of high school since transferring here, and she was nervous. Was she once again sad to leave her friends and move? She had done it so many times she was immune to it. "Lana, have you gotten everything ready for school tomorrow?" the door creaked open and her father peeked in. "Yes, I have," she responded. "I'm sorry, dear. You know my job- we have to move and move but I promise I-"
"It's okay. You don't have to explain," she cut him off, turning her back on him and closing her eyes tightly. "Do you mind turning off the lights? I'm gonna get some rest," she said. "Oh. Alright," her dad said, a little upset, knowing his daughter was sick of moving to different places."LANA! IT'S 8AM! GET UP!" a familiar voice bellowed. Lana, puzzled, stretched out and opened her eyes slowly. She glanced at her alarm clock, and her eyes widened when she saw the time. She was late for her very first day of school! She quickly showered and threw a hoodie on, along with ripped jeans and sneakers. She combed her velvet hair back with her fingers and grabbed her textbooks, throwing and piling them into a backpack. She rushed downstairs, zipping her bag at the same time. She dashed outside and quickly went into her father's car.
The whole ride, Lana was quiet. She kept clutching her backpack straps, nervous. "Don't worry, you're not late. We still have some time," her father reassured her.
The car stopped outside of a humongous campus, Hanguk High. The towering buildings intimidated her, but she stepped in bravely. Many students were rushing in too. She stopped in the hallway, and checked her phone for her schedule. She had to go to the principal's office first, to get some documents.
She knocked softly, before slowly opening the door. "Good morning, Mr Seunghyun. I'm Lana," she introduced herself, bowing to the principal. "Lana! Great to see you. Good morning to you too. Do take a seat," he gestured to the empty chair in front of his desk. She sat down, and he began talking to her. "Okay, so the school, as you can see, is quite big and hard to get used to alone. So, I decided I'd assign a student to you to help you get around. He's in the same Mathematics class as you, which is your first period, so you can ask him questions," the principal said. "Come in!" he said after someone knocked at the door. A neatly dressed boy with blonde hair walked in, both hands clutched on his backpack straps. He grinned widely. "You must be Lana! I'm Jimin," he introduced himself, holding his small hand out. Hospitality exuded from him, with his wide smile and warm gestures. She took his hand and shook it, returning the smile. He was so breathtaking, with his beautiful hazel brown eyes. "You both should get going. If anything is needed, do tell me. Enjoy your first day, Lana," the principal smiled.
"So, where are you from?" Jimin started the conversation, turning around to look at her with a playful smile. "Well, I'm originally from Gangnam, but my dad is working in business so he has to move to a lot of states. I moved from Incheon," she replied, looking down at the floor, not daring to look him in the eye. "Oh. It must be hard to leave your friends, right? I can't imagine doing that. I have some really close friends here, I'll introduce them to you during break time later," he happily said.
They walked and stopped in front of a classroom. "This is our class. Come," he opened the door for her. A woman with glasses perched on her nose looked at Lana. "You must be the new student, Lana! Come here, dear. Do introduce yourself," she smiled. "I'm Lana, I transferred here today. Uhm, I hope I can be a good classmate," she muttered. The class exploded in thunderous applause. "They seem really nice," she thought. "Okay, thanks Lana! Do take a seat. You can take the one next to Jimin. Now, class, open your textbooks to page 75," she instructed.
Lana moved to the seat next to Jimin, and put her bag on the floor.
"Psst. Lana," Jimin whispered. Lana craned her neck to his direction. "You okay?" he smiled, a little concern twinkling in his eyes. "Yeah, I am. Thanks," she smiled. "Your smile's really cute," he said sheepishly. She blushed, and turned around. "Sorry, what did you say?" she asked. He was about to say something when the bell rang and everyone got up.
"BREAKTIME!" a student yelled as he ran to Jimin, ruffling his hair and putting his arm around him. Jimin laughed. "Lana, this is Baekhyun. He's a little crazy," Jimin said. "Hey! I'm not crazy. But maybe I am a little wild," he smirked. "Ya! Park Jimin!" a smooth voice called out. Jimin raised his eyebrows and looked behind. A boy with rolled up sleeves came running to them. His eyes locked onto hers and he held his gaze for a long time. "Who's this?" he asked, his voice soothing. "She's new. Her name's Lana. Lana, this is Taehyung," Jimin answered. Taehyung had such beautiful eyes, she got lost in them. The beautiful, hazel blue ocean, she swam in, gazed at her dreamily with his defined cheekbones creeping up into a smile. "Hey, Lana. Welcome. If you need anything, just tell me," he grinned, combing his hair back and winking. "So let's go to the cafeteria," Jimin suggested. Lana didn't say anything and had her eyes fixed on Taehyung. "Lana? Lana?" Jimin nudged her softly. "Oh, oh. Yeah, sure," she snapped back to reality and looked away. Taehyung scoffed, putting his hands in his pockets and leisurely walking along them.
