Temperance's POV
I finally made it to my first class of the day, science. I like science because my seat is at the very back of the classroom and this class is an easy A. I knew I was late so I quickly walked in. My science teacher was Mr. Harper.
"Nice of you to join us Ms. Batiste," he said when he noticed me walk in. I hate the way he says my last name. He adds extra emphasis on the 'ste' part. Everyone turned to look at me, most shot me death glares. 'Thanks Mr. Harper' I thought.
"Sorry, sir. It won't happen again," I muttered and walked to my seat. Mr. Harper nodded and continued his lesson on Cyanobacteria. I took out my notebook and began to write some notes when the temperature around me dropped about ten degrees. I looked up from my notes and watched as the apparitions appeared all throughout the classroom. I watched them form into people.
Dead people.
~~~~~~~
I could see dead people. I've had this ability my entire life, and it's the whole reason why I have no friends. Living friends at least.
"My little Temp is becoming a rebel, being late for class and such." I turned my head to find Addy sitting in an empty desk next to me. To anyone else it'd look like I was staring at nothing, but I could see her.
Every spirit has a story, Addy's in particular is very sad. When she was alive, Addison Mitchell was a ordinary teenager who had everything. She was popular, she had a lot of friends, she had parents who gave her everything, and she was undeniably beautiful. She was everything I wasn't.
One night Addy was coming home from a party with four of her friends who were brain dead drunk. She wasn't going to let any of them drive, they could kill themselves and everyone else, so she drove them home that night. Addy never made it home.
She took her eyes off the road for a second, just to check on her friends that passed out in the backseat. That one mistake cost her her life. Addy collided with a truck that was going way over the speed limit of 35. Her chest smashed into the wheel and the force of it crushed her lungs. Addy died almost instantly. She was only seventeen.
Her four friends miraculously survived the crash. For a moment everyone mourned for her, then they got back to their lives. When I met her, which was about a year ago, she was full of hate and anger towards the living. Addy told me how she tried to connect with her friends and family, but they simply forgot about her. This was the main reason Addy hated the living.
Addy wasn't the only one who felt that the living disregarded the dead. There were tons of spirits who had the same mindset like Addy. Even if she hates the living, Addy's still my best friend and I'm always here for her. No matter what happens.
"Shut it Addison," I say. She hates to be called Addison.
Addy rolled her icy blue eyes and flipped her long black hair over her shoulder. Even death couldn't take away her beauty.
"I just wish they knew how it felt, how it felt to be forgotten," she said and stared at all of my classmates with an unreadable expression.
If it weren't for her idiot friends, Addy would still be alive and not like she is now. I nodded and went back to writing notes, truly afraid of what would happen to her. Only bad things happened to spirits who were full of hate for the living. They became awful creatures who inflicted pain on people and made them suffer.
They became demons.
