Little child, darling little child,
Who said
That you're any less
Than them
Who said
That you're any less
Because of your skin
Who said
That you're weird
And laughed in your face
Who said
That you're too different to play with
And left you while they raced
Who said
That you're not one of them
And snickered in your face
Who said that?
Let me tell you-
You're perfect
More so than them
The colour of your skin
May be darker than theirs
But darling, darling child
It shines brighter than any I've seen before
And besides
Who was Bilaal, who was Sa'ad,
Who was Barakah, who was Usamah?
Radhiyallahu Anhum, may Allah be pleased with them,
That's who
They were
Pleased with Him who was pleased with them
Were they not African?
Are they not in Paradise?
You're precious
You matter
You're special
Turn a deaf ear to them
But keep open an eye
Watch as they become successful
And you aim for the sky
You're talented and brilliant
A star amongst the darkness
Don't listen to their taunts
It's only a bunch of nonsense
Close your ears, open your mind,
Look to the sky but remain blind
Don't see the faults of others
Like they supposedly see yours
But look at their goodness
For it's somewhere inside
You're magnificent and wonderful
In your own little way
Don't listen to what anyone else has to say.
