I growl, annoyance in my throat. He steps forwards, into the light. I glare at him, before turning around and hoisting Jay's arm over my shoulders. He must've sensed the anger from the man's sudden appearance, and didn't resist against my harsh actions. Usually he would've thrashed about and pouted, but he said nothing as I carried him away from Kleitos.

The moment we turned around the corner and melted into the crowd at the market, I fell to my knees and Jay tumbled to the ground with me. Crawling back up, he stared at my face, but said nothing as he stood up again, and grabbed onto my arm.

"C'mon. Let's go."

I said nothing, and stumbled to my feet, before letting Jay drag me through the market towards Ravenscourt. A couple of people glared at us as we pushed past, but I could see the fear in their eyes as they shuffled unwillingly out of the way.

By the time we got back, it was already dark. Jay laid down on the makeshift bed in the middle of the room, and moments later, I heard the soft snores as he slept. Must've been worn out from draggin' me around all day. Sitting in front of the fire, I poked the glowing embers with a poker before chucking a handful of sticks into the fire. they crackled for a bit and go out, before the last of its remains turned to ash.

I stared into it, looking at the scarlet fames dancing around. Then, I heard footsteps behind me. The slight creaking of the wooden floor as the person or thing crept closer, and I glanced to my side. It definitely wasn't Jay. After all, the intruder was cautious about where they stood, whereas Jay would stand anywhere he wanted. Typical. I stared into the fire again, waiting for the intruder to come closer.

Come on, you idiot. Move closer so good old Jonah can smash your face in.

I counted to three in my head, before whipping around and sending the fire poker flying towards the intruder's face. It catches the hem of the hood, and pins it to the wall. I stare at the person in front of me, their features barely visible in the light. Huh, what a retard. The intruder glared back at me, her ginger hair wild and plastered around her face. Her eyes stared back at me, emotionless, the white digging into my mind.

"Breaking into my house in the middle of the night, I thought you had some guts already. But out of all the people to do so, it had to be you, Keagan."

Keagan shrugged, and sat down where I was before, and reached out to touch the fire burning wildly in the fireplace. Her hands, were pale, like her skin, and she pulled back as a flame flicked her finger. She smiled lightly again, and watched as the fire continued to burn away at the wood I had shoved in there earlier. Sighing, I sat down next to her, staring at the ground and tracing the cracks in the stone floor.

"Where did you go?"

She didn't respond, and I tried again.

"What happened?"

Keagen stared at me, and shook her head sadly. She pointed at the mark on her arm, barely visible through her wild strands of hair. A sword through the eye of a skull. The mark of a revenant.

"How have you been?"

Keagen shrugged, and traced a name in the dust.

Lucius.

What an idiot. Lucius and Keagen were part of the assassination crew hired by Blackwell. At first, everyone thought she was a freak, with her pointed ears and skin that looked like feathers in some areas on her arm. After all, she was a half elf. Despite what everyone else thought, I was always there with her when she needed someone to rant to. Not actually rant, more like use as a punchbag. I always took the hits, and never said a word against it. If I had been through what she has, I would've reacted the same. Although no one apart from me knew what her other side was, Keagen and I got along just fine, even though she never talked. Lucius on the other hand, despised me. He would always pick fights, get me in trouble and so on, all because I was a 'halfling'. Half avian, half monster. So childish.
