ETHAN was in grief. he was suddenly called into the hospital to know that his brother was in a severe accident.
"c-can i see him?" ethan asked, as soon as the nurse came out of grayson's room.
"sure, mr.dolan is just in that room." she spoke, pointing towards the door she'd just walked out from: 980.
ethan nodded his head, making his way towards the white doors. he briefly paused to let out a shaky breath. he didn't know how he was going to react to finding his brother on the bed, fighting the arms of death.
as ethan trotted towards grayson, the latter faintly smiled. for sure grayson knew he was going to give up fighting the pain, but he wanted to hear something, from ethan. a promise.
"hey," ethan weakly smiled. he wanted to stay strong for gray, and the only way to do that is to assure himself that he were. although he didn't think much of it.
"h-hi," grayson spoke, his voice weak, but husky. his back was paining the most, as he remotely remembered saving his girlfriend.
"h-how are you d-doing?" ethan tried to choke away the tears, but he miserably failed. seeing his best friend and brother in this situation made his heart ache.
"i'm holding up," grayson spoke, chuckling. he felt a pain spark through his body, as he hissed,. instantly ethan came to grayson's side.
"you're going to be alright." ethan spoke, repeatedly in an attempt to assure himself. in reality, the brothers knew that soon death would commence, greeting grayson with open arms.
"i'm not," grayson started, "that's why i wanted you here." he added, holding onto ethan's cold, pale hands. admittedly the hospital room was quite cold, but the duo just had to make do.
"what's wrong," ethan inquired, sitting down at the chair beside grayson hospital bed. "i'd do anything for you, just remember that."
"we both know, eth, that i don't have long to live," ethan vaguely winced. "so i want you to promise me something."
ethan vigorously nodded his head, "anything," he spoke, awaiting for grayson to settle his promise.
"just promise me, you'll love them as your own." grayson spoke, making ethan furrow his brows.
"-you mean?" the latter wondered, as soon as he realised what grayson had meant and who.
"yes. but just promise me, you'll get kyla to like you. make her forget about me and" grayson began coughing, "-and look after the baby. please."
ethan couldn't help but feel the tears flow from his puffy, red eyes. grayson wouldn't be able to look after his pregnant girlfriend and be with her for check-ups or the baby's labour. he wouldn't be able to experience what he'd done with his son, chase.
"i-i promise," ethan meekly smiled, making grayson return the gesture. "but your going to survive this," he gulped, "i promise"
grayson rested his head back, feeling his eyes close. he remotely rembered feeling two arms shaking him awake; screaming for him to return.
he chuckled as he heard a deep, croaky voice shout: "gray-fücking-son."
the memories.
